Considering the growing number of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) producers in the world, knowing the influence of olive oils with different geographical origins on the characteristics of the final blend becomes an interesting goal. The present work is focused on commercial organic EVOO blends obtained by mixing multiple oils from different geographical origins. These blends have been studied by H-NMR spectroscopy supported by multivariate statistical analysis.

The objective of this study consists of being able to develop a precise, reliable, easy, cheap and quick method to identify and quantify the presence of pesticide metabolites and their parents in human urine. In order to reach our purpose we selected the pesticides and their metabolites with intended uses on permanent crops such as orchards and vineyard. The activity planning started with the identification of the target list carried out by UHPLC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS, succeeded by several tests oriented to determine the best sample treatment having recourse to instrumental analysis in the range 5-100 ng/mL.

According to Coldiretti, Italy still continues to hold the European Quality record in extra virgin olive oils with origin designation and protected geographical indication (PDO and PGI). To date, 46 Italian brands are recognized by the European Union: 42 PDO and 4 PGI (Tuscan PGI, Calabria PGI; Tuscia PGI and PGI Sicily). Specific regulations, introduced for these quality marks, include the designation of both the geographical areas and the plant varieties contributing to the composition of the olive oil.

Due to strict regulatory requirements for pesticide residue analysis, only the results of residue analysis with acceptable quality should be reported. As a consequence proper validation of the measurement method is required. In this context, accuracy, precision, specificity, limit of determination (LOQ), matrix effect, linearity, uncertainty calculation and ruggedness become increasingly important.
