Article Synopsis
  • This report looks at how to help people with phantom limb pain and what they feel is missing in their treatment.
  • The study tests different ways to manage this pain, like medicines, surgeries, and unique therapies like mirror therapy and virtual reality.
  • Results show that teaching and involving patients early in their care can improve pain management, but there are still some challenges and things to work on for better treatment.

In patients with premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), non-invasive mapping could locate the PVCs' origin on a personalized 3-dimensional (3D) heart model and, thus, facilitate catheter ablation therapy planning. The aim of our report is to evaluate its accuracy compared to invasive mapping in terms of assessing the PVCs' early activation zone (EAZ). For this purpose, non-invasive electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI) was performed using the Amycard 01C system (EP Solutions SA, Switzerland) in three cases.

The wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) is becoming a more and more widely used instrument for the prevention of sudden cardiac death of patients either with a secondary prevention implantable cardioverter defibrillator indication or with a transient high risk of sudden cardiac death. Although clinical practice has demonstrated a benefit of protecting patients for a period as long as 3-6 months with such devices, the current European guidelines concerning ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death are still extremely restrictive in the patient selection in part because of the costs derived from such a prevention device, in part because of the lack of robust randomised trials. To illustrate expanded use cases for the WCD, four real-life clinical cases are presented where patients received the device slightly outside the established guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) effectively tracks SARS-CoV-2 spread and can serve as an early warning for new pathogens, but it needs efficient sample handling and analysis due to decentralized laboratory setups.
  • An interlaboratory study evaluated various PCR and HTS methods by testing samples spiked with different SARS-CoV-2 variants, showing that labs reported comparable results despite using unique procedures.
  • The results indicated that while all labs could accurately detect viral genome copy numbers, high-throughput sequencing required a minimum concentration of virus and had limitations, demonstrating that decentralized methods can still yield reliable findings in SARS-CoV-2 monitoring.

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a frequent target organ in acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), which can determine the morbidity and nonrelapse mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Donor T cells recognize allogeneic Ags presented by host APCs, proliferate, and differentiate into Th1 and Th17 cells that drive GVHD pathogenesis. IL-12 has been shown to play an important role in amplifying the allogeneic response in preclinical and clinical studies.
