"Mission-Aligned Funds Flow": Effect on Clinical Departments.

Problem: Academic medical centers struggle with the high cost of care, reduced reimbursement, intense competition, and low profit margins. Many factors, including a high proportion of publicly insured patients, a model rewarding procedural specialties, and research and educational support burden, led to faculty salary inequities, physician disengagement, and difficulty recruiting.

Approach: UC Davis Health implemented an aligned funds flow model in July 2021 to create a mission-aligned model in which all departments had financial margins to optimize recruitment, retention, research, and teaching.

Background: Weight reduction is essential for improving health outcomes in people with obesity and type 2 diabetes. We assessed the efficacy and safety of tirzepatide, a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, versus placebo, for weight management in people living with obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Methods: This phase 3, double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in seven countries.

Tropifexor for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis: an adaptive, randomized, placebo-controlled phase 2a/b trial.

The multimodal activities of farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonists make this class an attractive option to treat nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. The safety and efficacy of tropifexor, an FXR agonist, in a randomized, multicenter, double-blind, three-part adaptive design, phase 2 study, in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis were therefore assessed. In Parts A + B, 198 patients were randomized to receive tropifexor (10-90 μg) or placebo for 12 weeks.

The impact of an otolaryngology inpatient consult documentation improvement program.

Objective: In an era of limited medical training funds and challenges for teaching centers to maintain their academic mission, the importance of accurate documentation to ensure commensurate coding and billing for services is critical. We sought to develop a practical program that would teach residents documentation skills with the goal of more accurately capturing the work being done in a tertiary care academic medical center.

Methods: A case-control study was performed.
