Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the efficacy of Erich Arch Bar (EAB), Inter Maxillary Fixation (IMF) screws and SMART Lock Hybrid arch bar (HABs) in the treatment of mandibular fractures.

Materials And Methods: A prospective randomized clinical study was carried out in the Department of Dentistry at ESIC Hospital in Hyderabad from August 2021 to August 2023. The study comprised of three groups (EAB group (31), IMF screw group (33) and HABs group (29)).

Article Synopsis
  • Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are being used to create advanced models for studying diseases and testing drugs, especially in lung research.
  • By differentiating iPSCs into lung organoids in a controlled microenvironment that adjusts oxygen and pressure, researchers were able to mimic the structure and function of real lung tissue.
  • The developed lung organoids exhibited complex cellular architecture and increased gene/protein expression related to lung development, making them valuable for studying lung biology in both healthy and diseased states.

Article Synopsis
  • - This case highlights the challenges in predicting outcomes for athletes with valvular disease, as their athletic training can alter normal heart function.
  • - A 46-year-old female athlete is mentioned, who has both a bicuspid aortic valve and a subaortic membrane, leading to significant heart valve issues but no noticeable symptoms.
  • - The study suggests that cardiopulmonary exercise testing and advanced imaging techniques can be valuable tools for evaluating and managing condition in athletes.

Background And Aims: The paucity of large-scale data exploring the effect of prior bariatric surgery on recurrent stroke outcomes in older individuals with obesity who survived a stroke led us to address the gap, with an emphasis on the risk of recurrent stroke and its trends.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of the National Inpatient Sample data from 2016 to 2019. Older individuals with obesity who survived a stroke (>65 years) and had a recurrent acute ischemic stroke (AIS) hospitalization, with or without prior bariatric surgery (PBS), were identified using ICD-10 codes.

Mathematical models can be used to generate high-fidelity simulations of the cardiopulmonary system. Such models, when applied to real patients, can provide valuable insights into underlying physiological processes that are hard for clinicians to observe directly. In this work, we propose a novel modelling strategy capable of generating scenario-specific cardiopulmonary simulations to replicate the vital physiological signals clinicians use to determine the state of a patient.
