Background/objectives: Curcumin is well known for its great anti-inflammatory and antioxidant efficacy, representing a potential strategy for the treatment of respiratory disorders. However, several drawbacks, such as chemical instability, poor water solubility and rapid metabolism, result in low bioavailability, limiting its clinical applications. In this study, curcumin nanocrystals were incorporated into mannitol-based microparticles to obtain an inhalable dry powder.

Introduction: Few data are available about the forgiveness of two-drug (2DR) or low-barrier three-drug antiretroviral regimens. The aim of this study is to evaluate the real-life forgiveness of lamivudine/dolutegravir (3TC/DTG) and emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide/rilpivirine (FTC/TAF/RPV).

Methods: A two center retrospective observational study enrolled all people with HIV (PWH) treated with 3TC/DTG or FTC/TAF/RPV.

Cannabidiol (CBD), a small nonpsychoactive molecule derived from , exerts a variety of therapeutic actions, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial. Epidiolex is the only FDA-approved medicine containing pure CBD as an oral solution for seizure-controlling therapy. Nevertheless, the oral bioavailability of CBD is challenging due to its physical-chemical properties such as low solubility in water and high first-pass metabolism.

Article Synopsis
  • Statistical physics and dynamical systems theory are essential for understanding high-impact geophysical events, like temperature extremes and cyclones, which arise from deviations in typical geophysical system behaviors.
  • Traditional statistical techniques can predict the likelihood of these events but struggle to connect them to the underlying physics of anomalous geophysical regimes.
  • The paper discusses this gap in knowledge, highlighting challenges and proposing new approaches, particularly stochastic methods, to improve our understanding of extreme geophysical phenomena.

Rationale Pleural infection is associated with significant mortality and its management is complex. Little attention has been given to care process metrics such as management delays, pleural drainage practices, and adequacy of intrapleural therapy administration despite their potential impact on outcomes. Audits revealed gaps in those care processes in our institution.
