Discovery of a small molecule inhibitor through interference with the gp120-CD4 interaction.

A series of piperazine derivatives were designed and synthesised as gp120-CD4 inhibitors. SAR studies led to the discovery of potent inhibitors in a cell based anti viral assay represented by compounds 9 and 28. The rat pharmacokinetic and antiviral profiles of selected compounds are also presented.

What CNAs taught us: lessons learned while teaching CNAs how to handle resident aggression.

The authors conducted a series of two hour training programs in twenty five nursing facilities involving 479 CNAs. The focus was on how to deal with resident aggression. In the process of presenting 42 programs, we were impressed by the CNAs.

The interactive effects of alcohol and temazepam on P300 and reaction time.

The present research investigated the separate and interactive effects of the minor tranquilizer, temazepam, and a low dose of alcohol on the amplitude and latency of P300 and on reaction time. Twenty-four participants completed four drug treatments in a repeated measures design. The four drug treatments, organised as a fully repeated 2 x 2 design, included a placebo condition, an alcohol only condition, a temazepam only condition, and an alcohol and temazepam combined condition.

The present study investigated the effects of lead stimulus modality on modification of the acoustic startle reflex during three reaction time tasks. In Experiment 1, participants (N = 48) were required to press a button at the offset of one stimulus (task relevant) and to ignore presentations of a second (task irrelevant). Two tones that differed in pitch or two lights served as signal stimuli.
