The discovery that infections of viruses are pervasive among insects has considerable potential for future applications, such as new strategies for pest control through the manipulation of virus-host interactions. However, few studies can be found that aim to minimize (for beneficial insects) or maximize (for pests) virus impact or virulence. Viruses generally employ molecular mechanisms that deviate from the cells' to increase their replication efficiency and to avoid the immune response.

Preparation of TEMPO-Oxidized Cellulose Hydrogels Modified with β-Cyclodextrin and κ-Carrageenan for Potential Adsorption Applications.

Cellulose-based materials are promising adsorbents for pollutants and other classes of compounds. Here, we report the preparation of hydrogels via chemical cross-linking of microcrystalline cellulose oxidized by the 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical (TEMPO). The cross-linking process was carried out in the presence of modifiers such as β-cyclodextrin in order to insert hydrophobic cavities or κ-carrageenan due to the presence of negative charges along the molecular chains.

Small and medium-scale biorefineries: biomass quantification and its bioeconomic potential in the Southern Coastal Territory of Bahia.

Small and medium-scale biorefineries are processing facilities designed to produce a portfolio of value-added products with applications in different productive sectors. The Territory of the Southern Coast (TSC) of Bahia in Brazil has a high potential to provide agricultural and forest biomass for these bioindustries. This study focuses on quantifying the biomass of key agricultural crops in the TSC from 1999 to 2019, utilizing data from the Municipal Agricultural Production (MAP) survey conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Inventory of ethical problems in mobile pre-hospital care.

Objective: to construct and validate the content of an inventory of ethical problems experienced by nurses in mobile pre-hospital care.

Method: a psychometric approach study, developed with the following stages: (1) instrument construction through a theoretical matrix based on deliberative bioethics, scoping review and online qualitative research; (2) content validity by judges; (3) pre-testing with Mobile Emergency Care Service nurses in various Brazilian states. Objective: to analyze how motherhood is expressed in female prison units from the perspective of Bioethics of Protection.

Method: qualitative research with an ethnographic approach, developed in two women's prison units. Participantes were: six mothers deprived of liberty, 15 health professionals, and nine prison officers.
