Mitochondrial morphology is dynamic and varied.

The morphology of mitochondria is dynamic, often changing within a cell and from one cell type to the next. In the past few years, significant advances have been made in the study of mechanisms that help determine the morphologies of mitochondria and their intracellular distributions. It has become apparent that the distribution of mitochondria is determined by movement along the cytoskeleton, driven by molecular motors, and attachment to the cytoskeleton, using specific connector proteins.

The Jewish child, adolescent, and family.

This brief review addresses the history, beliefs, and practices of Jewish families that have implications for clinical management of the problems and disorders of children and adolescents. It focuses primarily on the problems of the Orthodox family due, in part, to the limitations of space. There remains, however, little doubt that the clinician must be aware of the impact that Jewish heritage may have on the clinical issues at hand.

Endophilin is required for synaptic vesicle endocytosis by localizing synaptojanin.

Endophilin is a membrane-associated protein required for endocytosis of synaptic vesicles. Two models have been proposed for endophilin: that it alters lipid composition in order to shape membranes during endocytosis, or that it binds the polyphosphoinositide phosphatase synaptojanin and recruits this phosphatase to membranes. In this study, we demonstrate that the unc-57 gene encodes the Caenorhabditis elegans ortholog of endophilin A.

Treatment recommendations for the use of antipsychotics for aggressive youth (TRAAY). Part II.

Objective: To develop treatment recommendations for the use of antipsychotic medications for children and adolescents with serious psychiatric disorders and externalizing behavior problems.

Method: Using a combination of evidence- and consensus-based methodologies, recommendations were developed in six phases as informed by three primary sources of information: (1) current scientific evidence (published and unpublished), (2) the expressed needs for treatment-relevant information and guidance specified by clinicians in a series of focus groups, and (3) consensus of clinical and research experts derived from a formal survey and a consensus workshop.

Results: Fourteen treatment recommendations on the use of atypical antipsychotics for aggression in youth with comorbid psychiatric conditions were developed.

"Real world" atypical antipsychotic prescribing practices in public child and adolescent inpatient settings.

This article examines the factors that influence antipsychotic use among youth treated in public inpatient facilities. By combining data from 11 focus groups, a survey of 43 researchers and clinicians, and a chart review of 100 closed patient charts, we investigated the interplay between physicians' and staff members' perceptions of problems related to antipsychotic prescribing, their beliefs concerning optimal approaches, their actual recorded prescribing behaviors, and the discrepancies between their beliefs and their recorded practices. We discovered that antipsychotics are prescribed broadly to treat a variety of conditions, including nonpsychotic disorders among children in public inpatient facilities.
