Deformation mechanisms of crystalline solids has been the subject of research for more than two centuries. The theory of dislocations dominates modern views but still has significant gaps demanding the introduction of additional concepts for the coherent quantitative description of physical phenomena. In this work, we propose a coherent geometric description of motion and deformation in crystalline solids as piecewise isometric transformations (PWIT).

Aim: To improve the results of treatment of patients with urolithiasis who underwent endoscopic interventions using a ureteral access sheath (UAS) by developing a predictive model of ureteral dilatation without pre-stenting.

Materials And Methods: A total of 180 patients with kidney stones up to 20 mm were included in the study. They were divided into two groups: in the group 1 (n=79) UAS of 12/14 Ch was used, while in group II (n=101) UAS of 10/12 Ch was inserted.

Article Synopsis
  • - Innate immunity in invertebrates provides effective antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) that combat drug-resistant infections, sparking interest in finding new β-hairpin AMPs from worm proteins with a BRICHOS domain.
  • - Researchers discovered new BRICHOS AMPs from caecilians, a lesser-known group of vertebrates, revealing similarities to lung surfactants and suggesting a unique lung function.
  • - The identified peptides show strong antibacterial properties against multidrug-resistant ESKAPE pathogens while being low in toxicity, indicating potential as a new antibiotic model and highlighting a previously unrecognized lung immunity mechanism.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become a viable alternative to palliation in patients with severe aortic stenosis. We compared general anesthesia to conscious sedation for TAVI procedures with respect to post operative morbidity, hospital length of stay, and financial burden.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of prospectively collected data in patients undergoing transfemoral TAVI procedures from 2012 to 2017.
