The association between body image and psychological outcomes in multiple sclerosis. A systematic review.

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating autoimmune condition, in which body image may be altered due to a range of biopsychosocial factors. The aim of this review was to examine whether there is a relationship between body image and psychological outcomes in MS, in order to guide clinical intervention development.

Methods: PsycINFO, Medline, CINAHL and Scopus databases were searched systematically in November 2023 for eligible studies, using terms relating to MS and body image.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on first-episode psychosis presentations in two early intervention in psychosis services.

Objectives: To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on first-episode psychosis (FEP) presentations across two Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) services in Ireland, by comparing pre-pandemic and post-pandemic cohorts.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational design with retrospective medical record review was employed. The study population comprised 187 FEP patients (77 in pre-pandemic and 110 in post-pandemic cohort).

In the era of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), parenchyma-preserving liver resections are gaining prominence with the potential to offer improved perioperative outcomes without compromising oncological safety. The surgeon learning curve remains challenging, and simulation plays a key role in surgical training. Existing simulation models can be limited by suboptimal fidelity and high cost.

The Home Health Project, set on Clare Island, five kilometres off the Irish Atlantic coast, is a pilot exploration of ways in which various forms of technology can be utilised to improve healthcare for individuals living in isolated communities. The integration of digital health technologies presents enormous potential to revolutionise the accessibility of healthcare systems for those living in remote communities, allowing patient care to function outside of traditional healthcare settings. This study aims to explore the personal experiences and perspectives of participants who are using digital technologies in the delivery of their healthcare as part of the Home Health Project.

Evaluating the Validity of National Multiassessment System in Postgraduate Surgical Training: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the validity evidence supporting the use and interpretation of a multifaceted assessment system in the early years of surgical training.

Design: This was a national retrospective cohort study analyzing the validity and reliability of an assessment process for surgical residents over a 2-year period. Data from all elements of the assessment process was evaluated using Messick's unified validity framework.
