To identify biomarkers and pathways to Type-2 diabetes (T2D), a major global disease, we completed array-based epigenome-wide association in whole blood in 5,709 Asian people. We found 323 Sentinel CpGs (from 314 genetic loci) that predict future T2D. The CpGs reveal coherent, nuclear regulatory disturbances in canonical immune activation pathways, as well as metabolic networks involved in insulin signalling, fatty acid metabolism and lipid transport, which are causally linked to development of T2D.

Background: Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the commonest cause of vertigo in older adults. Due to its high incidence in older adults presenting with falls, vestibular assessment is recommended in the World Guidelines for Falls Prevention. There is a paucity of evidence in well conducted randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate vitamin D for prevention of BPPV recurrence in relation to falls and function.

Introduction: This quality improvement project has tracked postoperative measures for more than 5 years as we implement an opioid-free laparoscopic appendectomy protocol.

Methods: We used statistical process control charts to analyze real-world data captured from the medical record. Outcome measures included postanesthesia care unit (PACU) length of stay (LOS), 24-hour maximum pain scores, PACU intravenous opioid medication administration, hospital LOS, and postoperative day 1 morphine milliequivalent requirement.

Social enterprises (SEs) are instrumental in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing persistent social, environmental, and economic challenges. However, the lack of validated frameworks to measure SE sustainability limits their ability to measure and strengthen their sustainable performance, which further hinders the capacity to drive transformative change as intended by the SDGs. Hence, this study aims to develop and validate a multidimensional scale for measuring the sustainability performance of SEs, enabling them to realise their potential and enhance their contributions to the SDGs.
