Utility of preoperative urine cultures and cystoscopies before ureteral reimplantation in pediatrics.

Background: Ureteral reimplantation remains the primary surgical method used for patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Cystoscopy is commonly performed first to visualize anatomy and rule out possible abnormalities. Urine cultures may also be obtained.

The ELFIN Mission.

The Electron Loss and Fields Investigation with a Spatio-Temporal Ambiguity-Resolving option (ELFIN-STAR, or heretoforth simply: ELFIN) mission comprises two identical 3-Unit (3U) CubeSats on a polar (∼93 inclination), nearly circular, low-Earth (∼450 km altitude) orbit. Launched on September 15, 2018, ELFIN is expected to have a >2.5 year lifetime.

Semimonolithic Nd:YAG ring resonator for generating cw single-frequency output at 1.06 microm.

We report 2.1 W of unidirectional single-frequency laser output from a novel Nd:YAG ring laser longitudinally pumped by a laser diode bar. The resonator requires only a single discrete optic and magnet, in addition to the laser medium, for stable multiwatt single-frequency operation.

Endoscopic transnasal antrochoanal polypectomy: an alternative to the transantral approach.

The use of functional endoscopic sinus surgery has been limited typically to management of chronic sinusitis, nasal polyposis, and recurrent acute sinusitis. Antrochoanal polyps (ACPs) traditionally have been resected using a Caldwell-Luc sinusotomy. We used the endoscopic approach, however, in the treatment of five cases of ACP.

Statistical analysis of the extended Hansen method using the bootstrap technique.

In this study, simple bootstrap techniques are combined with the extended Hansen solubility approach to calculate biases, standard errors, and confidence limits of the partial solubility parameters and to obtain bias-corrected values for these solubility parameters. The bootstrap method is rather new in its application to problems in the pharmaceutical sciences and, therefore, is described here in some detail. This method provides measures of the statistical variation of ratios of regression coefficients without making unwarranted assumptions about data variability.
