Using scintillation counting and autoradiographical techniques, the whole-body distribution in week-old uninfected chickens of the anticoccidial agent sulphaquinoxaline (SQ) labelled with 35S was established at various time intervals after a single oral dose either alone or following continuous in-feed medication with unlabelled SQ, and after a single intravenous dose. The distribution was also established in chickens infected with the coccidia Eimeria acervulina or E. tenella, after a single oral dose of radiolabelled SQ administered either alone or following continuous in-feed medication with unlabelled SQ, as for uninfected chicks.

Six members of kindred with only one surviving male in three generations, a history of an unusual combination of precocious gout in a girl of nine and rapidly progressive renal disease in young women, have been investigated. Sensitive indicators of the familial defect were the early development of hyperuricemia, an inability to concentrate the urine, and a patchy non-specific interstitial nephritis at biopsy. All these features were disproportionately severe for the young age and sex of affected subjects, and the relatively moderate reduction of GFR in some.

Eight calves and 15 steers were artificially infected with Anaplasma marginale. When parasitaemia reached 15 per cent, groups of animals were treated with either gloxazone (356C61), or imidocarb dihydrochloride or left untreated as controls. Both compounds were highly effective in the therapy of anaplasmosis.
