Background: Breast cancer neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) allows for assessing tumor sensitivity to systemic treatment, planning adjuvant treatment and follow-up. However, a sufficiently large number of patients fail to achieve the desired level of pathological tumor response while optimal early response assessment methods have not been established now. In our study, we simultaneously assessed the early chemotherapy-induced changes in the tumor volume by ultrasound (US), the tumor oxygenation by diffuse optical spectroscopy imaging (DOSI), and the state of the tumor vascular bed by Doppler US to elaborate the predictive criteria of breast tumor response to treatment.

The Aim Of The Study: We compare the effectiveness of multimodal optical coherence tomography (MM OCT) in the traditional structural OCT mode and the OCT elastography (OCE) mode in addressing two clinically important tasks: (1) detecting groups of tumor cells at surgical margins during breast-сonserving surgery (BСS) in breast cancer (BC) and (2) identifying breast tumor margins. The obtained results were correlated with corresponding histological sections.

Materials And Methods: The study was performed on 100 surgical margin samples (top, bottom, medial, and lateral - four samples from each patient in total) obtained from 25 patients with BC who underwent BCS (lumpectomy), and on 25 postoperative tumor samples (to determine tumor margins).

There is a wide range of equivocal melanocytic lesions that can be clinically and dermoscopically indistinguishable from early melanoma. In the present work, we assessed the possibilities of combined using of multiphoton microscopy (MPM) and optical coherence angiography (OCA) for differential diagnosis of the equivocal melanocytic lesions. Clinical and dermoscopic examinations of 60 melanocytic lesions revealed 10 benign lesions and 32 melanomas, while 18 lesions remained difficult to diagnose.

Functional impairments or trafficking defects of inhibitory glycine receptors (GlyRs) have been linked to human hyperekplexia/startle disease and autism spectrum disorders. We found that a lack of synaptic integration of GlyRs, together with disrupted receptor function, is responsible for a lethal startle phenotype in a novel spontaneous mouse mutant , caused by a missense mutation, Q177K, located in the extracellular β8-β9 loop of the GlyR α1 subunit. Recently, structural data provided evidence that the flexibility of the β8-β9 loop is crucial for conformational transitions during opening and closing of the ion channel and represents a novel allosteric binding site in Cys-loop receptors.
