Phenotypic Shift during Treatment of Plaque Psoriasis with Ixekizumab.

We present a case of a patient with longstanding psoriasis vulgaris who developed an atopic dermatitis-like eruption following long-term IL-17A inhibitor therapy. Following many years of excellent disease control with secukinumab and later ixekizumab, he developed a de novo eczematous eruption, which showed spongiotic dermatitis upon biopsy. The patient was successfully treated for both psoriasis and atopic dermatitis with upadacitinib, a Janus kinase inhibitor.

Effect of Industry Funding on Outcome Reporting in Cervical Disc Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Background Context: Cervical Disc Arthroplasty (CDA) has been shown to be an effective and safe alternative to Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF), with randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting non-inferior or even favorable outcomes to ACDF. However, the current literature of large RCTs reporting long-term outcomes of CDA primarily comprises of the industry sponsored Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) trials. As a result, CDA has yet to be universally accepted by surgeons due to concerns of bias in the current literature.

Comparing the Immune Response to PEEK as an Implant Material with and without P-15 Peptide as Bone Graft Material in a Rabbit Long Bone Model.

P-15 is a 15-amino-acid-long biomimetic peptide widely demonstrated to enhance osteogenesis in vivo. Despite the prevalence of polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) in interbody device manufacturing, a growing body of evidence suggests it may produce an unfavorable immune response. The purpose of this preliminary study was to characterize the immune response and new bone growth surrounding PEEK implants with and without a P-15 peptide-based osteobiologic.

Polymicrobial methicillin-resistant bloodstream infections.

Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) bloodstream infection (BSI) is a serious public health concern. At times, MRSA is isolated from the blood along with other pathogens, the significance and consequences of which are not well described. This study aims to outline the clinical characteristics and outcomes of those with polymicrobial MRSA BSI compared with those with monomicrobial MRSA BSI.

The MOSAIC Study: A Mixed-Methods Study of the Clinical, Emotional, and Financial Burden of Geographic Atrophy Among Patients and Caregivers in the US.

Purpose: Geographic atrophy (GA) impacts both patients and caregivers, yet little is understood about their respective burdens. The MOSAIC study aimed to identify the clinical, emotional, and financial burden among patients with GA and caregivers.

Methods: A total of 28 patients with GA and 17 caregivers from the United States (US), the United Kingdom, and Australia participated in individualized qualitative interviews followed by a cross-sectional quantitative survey of 102 patients and 102 caregivers in the US.
