Aims: Surgical aortic valve replacement has been the treatment of choice for patients with aortic valve disease before the arrival of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI), although limited by degeneration of the bioprosthesis. "Redo" intervention itself is burdened by high risk of complications and valve-in-valve (ViV) TAVI could be a valid strategy of redo for patients with comorbidities.

The assessment of the radiological impact of decommissioning activities at a nuclear power plant requires a detailed analysis of the distribution of radionuclides in the environment surrounding it. The present work concerns data of three campaigns carried out during the last twenty years in the plain of the Garigliano river surrounding the Garigliano Nuclear Power Plant (GNPP), which is located in Southern Italy and shut down in 1979. Moreover, some data from surveys held in the eighties, across the Chernobyl accident, have been taken in account.

In this paper we describe a case of a rapidly growing pseudoaneurysm of the aortic arch occurring after surgery for acute type A aortic dissection that was successfully treated with an off-the-shelf, single-branch, dual-module aortic arch endovascular stent graft. The main module, which has a side-branch for the innominate artery, was implanted in the aortic arch and in the descending thoracic aorta. The second module was deployed in the ascending aorta and connected to the main module through a proprietary interlocking system.

Purpose: To clarify the role of endovascular treatment in patients with Critical Hand Ischemia of the distal upper extremity.

Methods: From January 2012 to January 2017, 18 dialyzed patients presented chronic critical hand ischemia; 6 patients had a chronic occlusion of the ulnar artery and radial artery stenosis, 5 patients had a chronic occlusion of the radial artery and ulnar artery stenosis, 4 patients presented multiple stenosis of the ulnar, radial and interosseous arteries, 2 patients had only ulnar artery occlusion while one patient presented only radial artery occlusion. All patients underwent duplex ultrasound and a subsequent brachial angiography, in order to evaluate the distal run-off circulation.

Under voluntary vaccination, a critical role in shaping the level and trends of vaccine uptake is played by the type and structure of information that is received and used by parents of children eligible for vaccination. In this article we investigate the feedbacks of spatial mobility and the spatial structure of information on vaccination dynamics, by extending to a continuous spatially structured setting existing behavioral epidemiology models for the impact of vaccine adverse events (VAEs) on vaccination choices. We considered the simplest spatial setting, namely classical 'Fickian' diffusion, and focused on the noteworthy case where the infection is absent.

We present the case of a 45-year-old man with atrial fibrillation and morbid obesity (weight 128 kg, height 168 cm, BMI 45.4) who was switched from Warfarin 5 mg once daily to Apixaban 5 mg twice daily because he did not achieve at least 60% of the time in therapeutic range. We performed serial determinations of apixaban plasma concentration (at 2, 6, 12, 24 hrs after intake) showing drug levels within reference range, even when the patient lose weight.

The elliptic flow of muons from the decay of charm and bottom hadrons is measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 150  pb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The muons from heavy-flavor decay are separated from light-hadron decay muons using momentum imbalance between the tracking and muon spectrometers. The heavy-flavor decay muons are further separated into those from charm decay and those from bottom decay using the distance-of-closest-approach to the collision vertex.

Background: The pacemaker (PM) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) Registry of the Italian Association of Arrhythmology and Cardiac Pacing (AIAC) monitors the main epidemiological data in real-world practice. The survey for the 2018 activity collects information about demographics, clinical characteristics, main indications for PM/ICD therapy and device types from the Italian collaborating centers.

A search for magnetic monopoles and high-electric-charge objects is presented using 34.4  fb^{-1} of 13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015 and 2016. The considered signature is based upon high ionization in the transition radiation tracker of the inner detector associated with a pencil-shape energy deposit in the electromagnetic calorimeter.

: A history of heparin hypersensitivity in patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass surgery poses the dilemma of which anticoagulant to use. Here, we report the successful use of a heparin challenge test in a 66-year-old female candidate for coronary artery bypass graft surgery with a past medical history of enoxaparin type I hypersensitivity after pulmonary embolism. Challenge and desensitization protocols are effectively used for essential antibiotics in patients with severe infections and/or allergies, or patients with aspirin intolerance requiring revascularization for coronary disease.

ICD-measured S1 and S3 have been shown to significantly correlate with hemodynamic changes in acute animal models. Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are considered a first-line therapy for long-term stroke prevention in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AF) and high thromboembolic risk. The potential role of DOACs in cardiac interventional procedures is a pressing clinical question, considering the increasing number of procedures and the growing prevalence of patients in DOAC therapy. The aim of this review is to provide an update on available evidence about the clinical performance of DOACs in AF patients undergoing different interventional procedures (AF cardioversion and ablation, and percutaneous coronary and structural heart disease interventions) and to explore the possible role of DOACs as an alternative therapeutic strategy in cardiac interventional procedures among non-AF patients.
