High-energy nuclear collisions create a quark-gluon plasma, whose initial condition and subsequent expansion vary from event to event, impacting the distribution of the eventwise average transverse momentum [P([p_{T}])]. Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

At 95% confidence level (CL), the upper limit on the production rate is 2.9 times the standard model (SM) prediction, with an expected limit of 2.

The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Two fiducial regions with an enhanced presence of events featuring two longitudinally polarized bosons are defined.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA combination of searches for a new resonance decaying into a Higgs boson pair is presented, using up to 139 fb^{-1} of pp collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The combination includes searches performed in three decay channels: bb[over ¯]bb[over ¯], bb[over ¯]τ^{+}τ^{-}, and bb[over ¯]γγ. No excess above the expected Standard Model background is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the production cross section of Higgs boson pairs originating from the decay of a narrow scalar resonance with mass in the range 251 GeV-5 TeV.

This Letter presents a novel search for nearly mass-degenerate Higgsinos in events with an energetic jet, missing transverse momentum, and a low-momentum track with a significant transverse impact parameter using 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment. For the first time since LEP, a range of mass splittings between the lightest charged and neutral Higgsinos from 0.

Eleven patients classified as being in VS (9 post-anoxic, 2 post-traumatic, time elapsed from the injury 9-85 months) were included in the study. Real or sham 20 Hz rTMS were applied to the left primary motor cortex (M1) for 5 consecutive days.

Methods: The influence of age at diagnosis, tumor stage, gender, and extent of operation on disease-free interval and cause-specific mortality at 5 and 10 years after initial thyroidectomy was analyzed.
Results: The 10-year disease-free interval was 75% for FC and 40.
Carbamate and organophosphate pesticides are widely used all over the world. Poisoning with these substances may produce both immediate and delayed neurotoxic effects. We report the case of a 4-year-old boy who was admitted to the Pediatric Department of the Second University of Naples for evaluation of stupor, lethargy, severe hypotonia, generalized weakness of his arms and legs, ataxia, dysmetria, miosis, excessive salivation and tearing.

Relatively few studies have addressed this issue for patients with follicular thyroid cancer. The goal of this retrospective study was to establish the best and most pertinent prognostic scoring system to predict survival in patients with follicular thyroid cancer.

The primary defect is due to a deficiency of the enzyme ornithine delta-aminotransferase, which is responsible for markedly elevated levels of ornithine in plasma and other body fluids. Although several therapeutic regimens have been proposed, the reduction in ornithine accumulation obtained by reducing the intake of its precursor arginine (semisynthetic low-arginine diet) is the one most practised.

The authors studied the clinical course of 132 patients with FTC to determine whether there was a direct relation between the histologic degree of invasion, tumor recurrence, and patient survival.
Methods: The 132 patients in the study population underwent 182 thyroid carcinoma-related operations, and their mean follow-up was 7.
FG syndrome (FGS, MIM 305450) is a rare X-linked recessive disorder comprising mental retardation and multiple malformations. Various families have been described to date, increasing our knowledge of the phenotype variability and making the clinical diagnosis complex, especially in sporadic patients. The first locus for FG syndrome (FGS1) was linked to chromosome region Xq12-q21.

We hypothesized that fundoplication is effective in patients with GERD irrespective of the preoperative LES pressure, and that in patients with normal LES pressure, a total fundoplication does not result in a high incidence of dysphagia.
Methods: We studied 280 unselected patients with GERD who underwent laparoscopic fundoplication.
Background: Although patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) of follicular cell origin usually have an excellent prognosis, some patients die from progressive tumor. Numerous postoperative criteria have been used to predict prognosis in patients with DTC. The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether the TNM and metastases, age, completeness of resection, invasion, size (MACIS) classifications predicted survival time and why patients died from DTC.

The reported success rate of parathyroid autotransplantation ranges from 75% to 100%. Recurrent hyperparathyroidism may develop after parathyroid autotransplantation, especially after the transplantation of hyperplastic or adenomatous parathyroid tissue.

Criteria used for diagnosis and treatment varies both within and between specialty groups. This discordance makes it difficult to compare disease and management practice.

1352 schoolchildren between 6-14 years old (699 males and 653 females) and 943 adults (176 males and 767 females) from eight villages of the province of Avellino were studied. All subjects were examined for thyroid size by at least two expert examiners. In most of them urine samples were collected for iodine determinations.

On day 14 of treatment three groups of patients were selected on the basis of clinical symptoms and instrumental tests; patients were subdivided into Responders, Partial Responders and Non-Responders. The results obtained were satisfactory in view of the fact that the selection into three groups enabled Partial Responders to be reclassified, in some cases by repeating the treatment cycle.
