This study assessed the relationships between emotional intimate partner violence (IPV) before, during, and after pregnancy and postpartum contraceptive use. We used 2016-2021 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System data from seven sites ( = 30,125). We used multivariable logistic regression to assess indicators of emotional IPV and provider counseling associated with postpartum contraceptive use.

This study examined the relationship between nonuse of contraception due to partner objection, one aspect of reproductive coercion, and selected pregnancy-related outcomes. We used 2016-2020 data from the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System in 22 jurisdictions to assess the prevalence of nonuse of contraception due to a partner objection by select characteristics among individuals with a recent live birth who reported an unintended pregnancy.

Dual RNA-seq offers a solution by enabling separation of mixed transcripts from the interface region. However, it has to deal with issues related to multiple mapping and cross-mapping of reads in host and parasite genomes, particularly as evolutionary divergence decreases.

Background: Bite injuries affecting the nose are uncommon occurrences characterized by their intricate nature and potential for severe complications. These injuries, inflicted by animals such as dogs and cats, and occasionally by humans, often result in traumatic nasal defects, with the lower third of the nose being the most affected area. Current reconstructive options for nasal defects include full-thickness skin grafts, local or regional flaps, and composite grafts.

Azithromycin (AZM) is used orally to treat pulmonary infections due to its ability to accumulate in lung tissues and immune cells after oral administration. Sulfated polysaccharides, such as heparin, are known to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 entry.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTitanium and titanium alloys are the prevailing dental implant materials owing to their favorable mechanical properties and biocompatibility, but how roughness dictates the biological response is still a matter of debate. In this study, laser texturing was used to generate eight paradigmatic roughened surfaces, with the aim of studying the early biological response elicited on MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts. Prior to cell tests, the samples underwent SEM analysis, optical profilometry, protein adsorption assay, and optical contact angle measurement with water and diiodomethane to determine surface free energy.

Background: The nasal ala has always been considered a difficult anatomical structure to restore, particularly when full-thickness reconstruction is needed. Although the forehead flap is considered the flap of choice, the nasolabial turnover flap, despite being a one-step surgical procedure, has been largely ignored for nasal ala reconstruction. We present our experience performing nasal ala full-thickness reconstruction with the nasolabial turnover flap, reporting on its advantages and comparing it with the most commonly used alternative techniques.

Using a mouse model recapitulating an IPV scenario, we evaluated the female brain neuroendocrine alterations produced by a reiterated male-to-female violent interaction (RMFVI). RMFVI prompted anxiety-like behavior in female mice whose hippocampus displayed a marked neuronal loss and hampered neurogenesis, namely reduced BrdU-DCX-positive nuclei and diminished dendritic arborization in the dentate gyrus (DG): effects paralleled by a substantial downregulation of the estrogen receptor β (ERβ).

However, the conventional methods available to characterize nasal products appear to be unsuitable to exhaustively cover these aspects. The work aims to investigate technological aspects of Ryaltris (mometasone furoate and olopatadine hydrochloride nasal spray) compared to other commercial anti-allergic nasal products, namely, Dymista (azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate), Nasonex (mometasone furoate), and Avamys (fluticasone furoate).

Transcriptomic analysis provides invaluable insights into allopolyploid plants by elucidating the fate of duplicated genes, revealing evolutionary novelties and uncovering their environmental adaptations. By examining gene expression profiles, scientists can discern how duplicated genes have evolved to acquire new functions or regulatory roles.

The primary aim of this study was to analyze the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding the use of NSAIDs simultaneously in one of the largest and most populated areas of Italy, Naples.
Methods: From 2021 December 14th to 2022 January 4th, a cross-sectional survey study was conducted among community centers, working places, and universities using a snowball sampling method.
Objectives: We aimed to determine the prevalence of self-reported naloxone use during pregnancy among people in the United States with a recent live birth. A secondary objective was to characterize people at increased risk of overdose who did and did not use naloxone.
Methods: We analyzed data from the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System from 26 US jurisdictions that conducted an opioid supplement survey from 2019 to 2020.
The use of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet (APPJ) technology for surface treatment of carbon fabrics is investigated to estimate the increase in the fracture toughness of carbon-fiber composite materials. Nitrogen and a nitrogen-hydrogen gas mixture were used to size the carbon fabrics by preliminarily optimizing the process parameters. The effects of the APPJ on the carbon fabrics were investigated by using optical and chemical characterizations.

This analysis examines the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the prevalence of FI among cancer survivors across New York State (NYS). Data from the 2019 and 2021 NYS Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) were used to estimate the prevalence of FI.

Using 2017-2019 data from Puerto Rico's Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System for 2,448 respondents with a recent live birth, we classified respondents into 4 hurricane exposure time periods based on infant birth month and year relative to when Hurricanes Irma and Maria occurred: (1) prehurricane; (2) acute hurricane; (3) posthurricane, early recovery; and (4) posthurricane, long-term recovery. We examined the association between maternity care practices during delivery hospitalization and exclusive breastfeeding at 3 months overall and stratified by time period.

Mitochondria play a fundamental role in Ca homeostasis since mitochondrial Ca (mitCa) is a key regulator of oxidative metabolism and cell death. MitCa uptake is mediated by the mitochondrial Ca uniporter complex (MCUc) localized in the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM).

It is characterized by a progressive deterioration of the physiological and cognitive functions of the organism, accompanied by a gradual impairment of mechanisms involved in the regulation of tissue and organ homeostasis, thus exacerbating the risk of developing pathologies, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
Methods: In the present work, for the first time, the influence of aging has been investigated in the brain cortex of the Podolica cattle breed, through LC-MS/MS-based differential proteomics and the bioinformatic analysis approach (data are available via ProteomeXchange with identifier PXD044108), with the aim of identifying potential aging or longevity markers, also associated with a specific lifestyle.
