Non-A non-B aortic dissection is considered a rare nosological entity, included in the Stanford classification, representing a small percentage of the total aortic dissections that occur annually. Regarding this form, the literature reports a more complicated disease course compared to other types of dissection. We describe the case of a 76-year-old patient who accessed the triage section of an emergency department for a polytrauma picture and, after surgical treatment of a leg fracture, received a diagnosis of non-A non-B aortic dissection, "localized" to the arch and incidentally detected.

Combining zinc nitrate with 3- and/or 4- aminocinnamic acid (3-ACA and 4-ACA, respectively) leads to the formation of the 0D complex [Zn(4-AC)(HO)], the 1D coordination polymer [Zn(3-AC)(4-AC)], and the 2D and 3D MOFs [Zn(3-AC)]∙2HO and [Zn(4-AC)]∙HO, respectively. These compounds result from the deprotonation of the acid molecules, with the resulting 3- and 4-aminocinnamate anions serving as bidentate terminal or bridging ligands. All solids were fully characterized single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction and thermal techniques.

Room temperature phosphorescence rarely occurs from pure organic molecules, especially in the solid-state. A strategy for the design of highly emissive organic phosphors is still hard to predict, thus impeding the development of new functional materials with the desired optical properties. Herein, we analyze a family of alkyl and aryl-substituted persulfurated benzenes, the latter representing a class of organic solid-state triplet emitters able to show very high emission quantum yield at room temperature.

Dissemination, or the widespread sharing of information, is important for moving research evidence into community practice. Early intervention programs for young autistic children have not yet been widely disseminated to the early childhood workforce. This letter describes factors that may support or prevent dissemination to community-based settings, such as packaging and branding early intervention approaches.

An increasing number of studies are highlighting the importance of spatial dendritic branching in pyramidal neurons in the neocortex for supporting non-linear computation through localized synaptic integration. In particular, dendritic branches play a key role in temporal signal processing and feature detection. This is accomplished thanks to coincidence detection (CD) mechanisms enabled by the presence of synaptic delays that align temporally disparate inputs for effective integration.

Certain food by-products, including not-good-for-sale apples and pomegranate peels, are rich in bioactive molecules that can be collected and reused in food formulations. Their extracts, rich in pectin and antioxidant compounds, were obtained using hydrodynamic cavitation (HC), a green, efficient, and scalable extraction technique. The extracts were chemically and physically characterized and used in gluten-free and vegan cookie formulations to replace part of the flour and sugar to study whether they can mimic the role of these ingredients.

Diabetes can trigger an increase in cytokine levels leading to the production of C-reactive protein and fibrinogen. These molecules promote subclinical inflammation, causing the expression of adhesive molecules and endothelial dysfunction. Despite the lack of a comprehensive panel for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for interleukins associated with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), understanding the inflammatory role of SNPs is crucial because periodontitis, the sixth complication of diabetes, is influenced via these genetic variations.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia. While the diagnosis of PD primarily relies on clinical assessments and neurological examination, there has been growing interest in exploring non-invasive imaging techniques to aid in early detection and monitoring of the disease. In recent years, retinal imaging has emerged as a promising tool for studying PD due to the close anatomical and functional similarities between the retina and the brain.

Article Synopsis
  • - Atypical chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is diagnosed based on shape and structure, but deviations from the usual immune profile indicate a need to look for atypical cases.
  • - In a study comparing atypical and typical CLL cases, atypical presentations showed distinct immune marker expressions, including higher CD20 and unmutated IgVH rates, and were associated with more advanced disease stages.
  • - While morphological features seem to provide better insights into patient prognosis, the effectiveness of using both morphology and immunophenotype in guiding treatment decisions remains uncertain and requires additional research.

Naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention (NDBI) is firmly rooted in both the science of ABA as well as developmental science. Research indicates that many practicing board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) are unfamiliar with NDBI models and do not implement these approaches when working with young autistic children (Hampton and Sandbank (4), 875-888, 2022). In this article we align NDBI to the seven dimensions of ABA, describe their compatibility with the ABA service system, and urge community agencies and insurance funders to support NDBI use.

Oxidative stress and fibrosis are important stress responses that characterize bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a disease for which only a therapy but not a cure has been developed. In this work, we investigated the effects of mesenchymal stromal cells-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) on lung and brain compartment in an animal model of hyperoxia-induced BPD. Rat pups were intratracheally injected with MSC-EVs produced by human umbilical cord-derived MSC, following the Good Manufacturing Practice-grade (GMP-grade).

We reported a case of non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) in a 37-year-old woman who presented with signs and symptoms of cardio-embolic cerebral stroke caused by a prothrombotic state due to underlying advanced uterine cancer. Multimodal imaging, including 3D-ecocardiography, as well as laboratory and cultural tests, were critical in making the diagnosis. After starting anticoagulation therapy with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), the patient underwent surgical aortic valve replacement due to worsening aortic valve function, initial left ventricle enlargement, increasing dimensions, and mobility of vegetations.

Although a rare disease, rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is one of the most common cancers in children the more aggressive and metastatic subtype is the alveolar RMS (ARMS). Survival outcomes with metastatic disease remain dismal and the need for new models that recapitulate key pathological features, including cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, is warranted. Here, we report an organotypic model that captures cellular and molecular determinants of invasive ARMS.

SINEUPs are natural and synthetic antisense long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) selectively enhancing target mRNAs translation by increasing their association with polysomes. This activity requires two RNA domains: an embedded inverted SINEB2 element acting as effector domain, and an antisense region, the binding domain, conferring target selectivity. SINEUP technology presents several advantages to treat genetic (haploinsufficiencies) and complex diseases restoring the physiological activity of diseased genes and of compensatory pathways.
