Mpox: Awareness, knowledge and information channels used by individuals accessing a sexually transmitted infections Helpline.

Background: Up until recently, monkeypox (mpox) was considered to be a rare zoonotic infection restricted to Central and West Africa. However, in July 2022, the World Health Organization declared mpox to be a public health emergency of international concern, after there were several outbreaks in non-endemic countries. This study assessed the information channels used by individuals accessing the "Telefono Verde AIDS e Infezioni Sessualmente Trasmesse" of Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Institute of Health in Italy) with regard to mpox.

Lutetium [Lu]-DOTA-TATE in gastroenteropancreatic-neuroendocrine tumours: rationale, design and baseline characteristics of the Italian prospective observational (REAL-LU) study.

Purpose: Gastroenteropancreatic -neuroendocrine tumours (GEP-NETs) are commonly treated with surgical resection or long-term therapies for tumour growth control. Lutetium [Lu]-DOTA-TATE was approved for the treatment of GEP-NETs after the phase III NETTER 1trial demonstrated improved progression free survival, objective response rates and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) compared to high-dose somatostatin analogues. No real-world data exist on prescribing habits and clinically significant endpoints for [Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE treatment in Italy.

Digital mental health interventions for school teachers - A narrative review.

Aim: School teachers face the paradox of being in a privileged position to act in youth mental health prevention, but in a vulnerable position for not receiving adequate training and personal support. Digital interventions can provide unexpensive tools and narrow this gap in a large scale without major structural changes. We aimed to synthesize the evidence for digital mental health interventions for school teachers.

Management of a Patient With Metastatic Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Tumor and Meningioma Submitted to Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy With 177 Lu-DOTATATE.

A 76-year-old woman affected by pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor previously subjected to surgery with progressive liver disease and a concomitant mild symptomatic meningioma of the left pontocerebellar angle underwent 4 cycles of peptide receptor radionuclide therapy with 177 Lu-DOTATATE. A prophylactic therapy with corticosteroids was carried out before each treatment cycle, and the neurosurgery unit was alerted in case of cerebral edema and related neurologic symptoms. A 68 Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT scan performed after the completion of the 4 cycles' treatment documented a hepatic partial response and a substantial stability of the brain mass.

Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials in 2-Year-Old Subjects.

 Cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEPs) can be used to evaluate both peripheral and cortical components of auditory function, and contribute to the assessment of functional sensitivity and auditory thresholds, especially in neonates and infants. Auditory evoked potentials reflect auditory maturity and precede the acquisition of more complex auditory and cognitive skills, and are therefore crucial for speech and language development.  The aim of the present study was to determine the presence, latency and amplitude of CAEP components in response to verbal stimuli in children aged 2 years old.

Auditory training in autism spectrum disorder: a case report.

This study aimed to measure the effects of a Computer-based Auditory Training Program (CBATP) on an adolescent diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD). This is the case report of a male, 14-year-old adolescent diagnosed with ASD. The individual was submitted to basic audiological evaluation, central auditory processing assessment and hearing electrophysiology (EP), pre- and post-therapeutic intervention.

Decrease in total lesion glycolysis and survival after yttrium-90-radioembolization in poorly differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma with portal vein tumour thrombosis.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the prognostic role of the decrease in total lesion glycolysis (TLG) assessed by fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) PET-computed tomography (CT) 1 month after yttrium-90-radioembolization (Y-RE) in patients affected by hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein tumour thrombosis (PVTT).

Patients And Methods: Twenty-one patients with histologically proven poorly differentiated HCC and evidence of PVTT at the enhanced multislice CT underwent Y-RE. All patients underwent an F-FDG PET-CT scan at baseline and 1 month after the loco-regional therapy.

Connectivity of Marine Protected Areas and Its Relation with Total Kinetic Energy.

The East Continental Shelf (ECS) of Brazil is a hotspot of endemism and biodiversity of reef biota in the South Atlantic, hosting a number of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Connectivity of MPAs through larval dispersal influences recruitment, population dynamics, genetic structure and biogeography in coral reef ecosystems. Connectivity of protected reef ecosystem in the ECS was investigated with a hydrodynamic model (ROMS) forcing an Individual Based Model (IBM-Ichthyop), and used groupers (genus Mycteroperca) as functional group.

A case report of thyroid carcinoma confined to ovary and concurrently occult in the thyroid: is conservative treatment always advised?

Introduction: Struma ovarii is an ovarian teratoma, represented in more than 50% by thyroid tissue. Five percent of struma ovarii cases have been proven to be malignant and, as in the thyroid gland, papillary thyroid carcinoma is the most common histotype arising in struma ovarii. Because of the unusual occurrence of this tumor, its management and follow-up after pelvic surgery is still controversial.

90Y-PET for the assessment of microsphere biodistribution after selective internal radiotherapy.

Objectives: To demonstrate the feasibility of 90Y-PET imaging for biodistribution assessment after selective internal radiotherapy treatments with 90Y-microspheres, comparing the results with 99mTc-macroaggregated albumin (MAA) images obtained with single-photon emission computed tomography.

Methods: Preliminary studies were performed with the aim of evaluating the imaging system spatial resolution and scanner sensitivity for detecting annihilation photons. Subsequently, microsphere distribution was evaluated in 10 patients who underwent liver selective internal radiotherapy treatment.

Single pass tangential flow filtration to debottleneck downstream processing for therapeutic antibody production.

As the therapeutic monoclonal antibody (mAb) market continues to grow, optimizing production processes is becoming more critical in improving efficiencies and reducing cost-of-goods in large-scale production. With the recent trends of increasing cell culture titers from upstream process improvements, downstream capacity has become the bottleneck in many existing manufacturing facilities. Single Pass Tangential Flow Filtration (SPTFF) is an emerging technology, which is potentially useful in debottlenecking downstream capacity, especially when the pool tank size is a limiting factor.

Radioembolisation using yttrium 90 (Y-90) in patients affected by unresectable hepatic metastases.

Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the effectiveness of radioembolisation of liver metastases with yttrium 90 (Y-90) in patients with no response to chemotherapy.

Materials And Methods: From February 2005 to January 2008, we treated 110 patients affected by liver metastatic disease from colorectal, breast, gastric, pancreatic, pulmonary, oesophageal and pharyngeal cancers and from cholangiocarcinoma and melanoma. We excluded patients with bilirubin level >1.

[HIV prevention and adolescents: a sample survey on Italian high school students].

This article resulted from a survey carried out by some researchers of the Telefono Verde AIDS (TVA-National AIDS Help-Line) of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, with the collaboration of some colleagues of the Segreteria per le Attività Culturali. It is also a summary of strategies of intervention against HIV/AIDS for young people implemented by the Italian Ministry of Health. The study was developed within the context of the workshops on HIV/AIDS education carried out since 1995 by some researchers of TVA.

Patency of anastomoses after bilio-intestinal bypass: radioisotope demonstration.

Background: Bilio-intestinal bypass (BIB) is effective for the treatment of refractory obesity. BIB permits bile flow into the non-functional jejunum, whereas food transit occurs via the remaining intestine. We used the radioisotope method of 99mTc-Hida cholescintigraphy (HC) in the follow-up of patients.

Immigration and health: the Italian National Focal Point experience.

This report is a description of the situation of migrant populations in Italy. It was written by a committed team of experts from public institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGO) and volunteer associations that for three years have been part of the Italian National Focal Point (NFP) within the European Project "AIDS & Mobility", which is being co-ordinated by the Netherlands Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (the Netherlands) and financed by the European Commission DG/V. This year the Italian National Focal Point, co-ordinated by the Telefono Verde AIDS of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, has produced a second report (the first one was published in 1998) on health issues related to migrant populations.

[Scintigraphy with 99mTc-HMPAO-marked leukocytes and abdominal tumors: clinical interpretation of scintigraphy results].

The 99mTc-HMAPAO-labelled leucocyte scan is a widely employed diagnostic tool in the assessment of inflammatory and infective diseases. Nevertheless, leucocytes accumulation in neoplastic lesions has been reported. In the present study, aimed at the exploration of the abdomen and performed on 62 patients, positive scintigraphic findings were obtained in 66.

Sternal wound infection revisited.

Sternal wound infections (SWIs) can be subdivided into two types, superficial or deep, that require different treatments. The clinical diagnosis of superficial SWI is normally easy to perform, whereas the involvement of deep tissues is frequently difficult to detect. Therefore, there is a need for an imaging study that permits the assessment of SWIs and is able to distinguish between superficial and deep SWI.
