Background/aim: Morphological features, combined with Ki-67 proliferative index, remain the standard for discriminating benign and malignant adrenocortical tumors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of minichromosome maintenance proteins MCM-3, MCM-5, MCM-7, and Ki-67 as proliferative markers in adrenocortical tumors.

Materials And Methods: Specimens of 81 adrenocortical adenomas and 3 adrenocortical carcinomas were stained with antibodies against MCM-3, 5, 7 and Ki-67.

We describe a 47-year-old male who was admitted to our centre from a local emergency unit with septic shock due to suspected Boerhaave syndrome. After the diagnosis was confirmed, the patient underwent emergency surgery. Postoperatively, the patient had symptoms of acute alcoholic delirium, and developed an oesophagomediastinal fistula as the most serious local complication.

Background: Ideal pouch created during restorative proctocolectomy is a new gastrointestinal organ--"neorectum". Although it is made from the ileum, it takes over function of the removed rectum. This new function results in significant morphological changes in pouch's mucous membrane, which becomes similar to the large bowel mucosa.

Objective: Neck nodular lesions may derive from several different tissues, often mimicking thyroid tumor in the preoperative examination.

Methods: We described three patients admitted in 2012 to the Department of Endocrine Surgery in Wrocław with nodular lesion in the neck area mimicking tumor of the thyroid gland.

Results: In the first patient with a tumor in projection on the isthmus and the left thyroid lobe, neurilemmoma was discovered in the histopathological exams.

Background/aims: Crohn's disease is a non-specific, chronic inflammatory disorder affecting any part of alimentary tract. Patients receiving proper medication require surgery in 70-90% of cases. Analysis of results of surgical treatment in Crohn's disease in patients treated at the Medical University of Wrocław and an attempt to elaborate the optimal surgical strategy in Crohn's disease was the aim of the study.

Background/aims: Relation between cancer of the exocrine part of the pancreas and chronic pancreatitis has not been clearly defined and the problem of carcinogens based on long-lasting chronic pancreatitis is still a matter of discussion.

Methodology: The aim of the study was analysis of postoperative material of patients who in the years 1999-2003 underwent either drainage procedures (n=49) in the course of chronic pancreatitis or resectional procedures (n=36) for chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.
