This article discusses a comparative analysis of the wear and quality of planer knife blades used in wood planers. The novelty in this work is the use of a simple coordinate measuring machine with a vision system to assess the wear of the cutting edges of planer knives. The primary objective of the research described in this paper was to verify whether the wear of the cutting edge of planer knives can be measured quickly and accurately using an optical coordinate measuring machine with a vision system.

This innovative method was denoted as sequential smoothing treatment. An experimental study of the effect of the smoothing process conditions on the surface roughness, surface texture and micro roughness of the surface of glass workpieces was conducted.

The main aim of the research was to evaluate the mechanism of formation of the surface texture and to assess the intensity and effectiveness of the machining process. It is shown that additional movements of the workpiece significantly affect the formation of the machining traces generated by the elementary phenomena of micro-cutting, scratching, grooving, etc.

The aim of the research described in this article was to fill this gap and to propose the author's methodology for the assessment of the technological quality of the surface of X5CRNI18-10 steel shaped as a result of laser cutting and abrasive water jet cutting. A synthetic index of technological quality assessment of the surface after cutting (cutting technological quality) was proposed.
