The effect of incretin-based drugs on the riks of acute pancreatitis: a review.

Objectives: In recent years, new hypoglycaemic drugs that affect the incretin system have become increasingly popular in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM): glucagon-like receptor 1 agonists (GLP1RAs), dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP4is) and the recently developed dual glucagon-like receptor 1 agonist and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (tirzepatide). Their main role of these drugs is to normalise blood glucose levels. In addition, GLP1RAs are approved for the treatment of excessive body weight.

Network structure shapes the impact of diversity in collective learning.

It is widely believed that diversity arising from different skills enhances the performance of teams, and in particular, their ability to learn and innovate. However, diversity has also been associated with negative effects on the communication and coordination within collectives. Yet, despite the importance of diversity as a concept, we still lack a mechanistic understanding of how its impact is shaped by the underlying social network.

Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Cell Therapy for Pancreatic Cancer: A Review of Current Evidence.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has revolutionized the treatment of malignant and non-malignant disorders. CARs are synthetic transmembrane receptors expressed on genetically modified immune effector cells, including T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, or macrophages, which are able to recognize specific surface antigens on target cells and eliminate them. CAR-modified immune cells mediate cytotoxic antitumor effects via numerous mechanisms, including the perforin and granzyme pathway, Fas and Fas Ligand (FasL) pathway, and cytokine secretion.

In this Perspective, we explore the notion of 'machine culture', culture mediated or generated by machines. We argue that intelligent machines simultaneously transform the cultural evolutionary processes of variation, transmission and selection.

The Accuracy of Clinical Diagnosis in 2135 Lesions on the Face. A Retrospective Analysis of Histopathological Records.

Introduction: Biopsy of facial skin lesions is an important supplement to dermatological diagnostics, especially in doubtful cases or suspected of being malignant.

Objectives: The aim of the retrospective study of 2135 histopathological records of lesions on the face was to: establish the most common indications for a skin biopsy in patients with facial lesions, establish the frequency of histopathological diagnoses, evaluate how often clinically suspected inflammatory lesions are identified as tumors in histopathology, evaluate the accuracy of clinical diagnoses of the most common skin tumors and dermatoses.

Methods: It was a retrospective study.

Lentigo Maligna on a Difficult Location of the Face Treated with 5% Imiquimod: A Case Report of 2-Year Follow-Up.

Topical imiquimod is an off-label alternative treatment for lentigo maligna used when surgery cannot be performed. Severe inflammatory response induced by this drug may generate many complaints and force patients to discontinue use. We present a case in which interval treatment with 5% topical imiquimod was implemented for severe inflammatory response.

Chromium bioavailability in aquatic systems impacted by tannery wastewaters. Part 1: Understanding chromium accumulation by indigenous chironomids.

The tanning industry uses large quantities of Cr whose contribution to the contaminant burden of aquatic organisms is not yet fully understood. The present study investigated Cr bioaccumulation by indigenous chironomids in a freshwater ecosystem impacted by tannery effluents. Total Cr content in sediments and in chironomids was determined on several occasions.

Chromium bioavailability in aquatic systems impacted by tannery wastewaters. Part 2: New insights from laboratory and in situ testing with Chironomus riparius Meigen (Diptera, Chironomidae).

Chromium is widely used as a tanning agent and can become a contaminant of concern in aquatic ecosystems receiving discharges from industrial or artisanal tanning activities. In a companion study, we showed that Cr discharged by tanneries was bioavailable to indigenous chironomids with accumulation via sediment ingestion likely to represent the predominant exposure route. However, Cr accumulation by chironomids did not directly reflect the degree of sediment contamination and the potential adverse effects of Cr accumulation on chironomids were not evaluated.

Morphology of the adult male and pupal exuviae of () (Meigen 1818) (Diptera, Chironomidae) using scanning electron microscope (SEM).

In this paper, a study of the morphology of the pupa and male imago of Glyptotendipes (G.) glaucus (Meigen 1818) was carried out, with the aid of a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The SEM provided additional valuable information on the morphology of the species.

Competition of simple and complex adoption on interdependent networks.

We consider the competition of two mechanisms for adoption processes: a so-called complex threshold dynamics and a simple susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) model. Separately, these mechanisms lead, respectively, to first-order and continuous transitions between nonadoption and adoption phases. We consider two interconnected layers.

Information slows down hierarchy growth.

We consider models of growing multilevel systems wherein the growth process is driven by rules of tournament selection. A system can be conceived as an evolving tree with a new node being attached to a contestant node at the best hierarchy level (a level nearest to the tree root). The proposed evolution reflects limited information on system properties available to new nodes.

Noise enhances information transfer in hierarchical networks.

We study the influence of noise on information transmission in the form of packages shipped between nodes of hierarchical networks. Numerical simulations are performed for artificial tree networks, scale-free Ravasz-Barabási networks as well for a real network formed by email addresses of former Enron employees. Two types of noise are considered.
