Painful Purulent Nodules Caused by Mycobacterium at Site of Lipodissolve Injections.

"Lipodissolve" (LD) is a non-FDA-approved solution of phosphatidylcholine in deoxycholate that was developed around 2004. A study of its safety reported minor and uncommon side effects including pain, tender nodules, pigmentary alterations, and ulceration at the site of injection. We present a 53-year-old woman who received LD injections bilaterally to her proximal arms.

A Young Boy With Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis Presenting With Vaccine-Related Granulomatous Dermatitis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Cutaneous eruptions associated with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) have been reported in 6%-63% of patients. Clinical findings of these skin lesions vary widely and include maculopapular rashes, ulcers, and violaceous nodules. Corresponding histologic findings are also variable and are considered nonspecific.

GLUT1 Expression in Cutaneous Sebaceous Lesions Determined by Immunohistochemical Staining Patterns.

GLUT1 is a membrane associated carrier protein that functions in the physiologic transport of glucose across cell membranes. Multiple studies have shown an increased GLUT1 expression in various tumor types and a role in cancer prognosis. The aim of this study was to determine whether cutaneous sebaceous lesions have a differential expression of GLUT1 by immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Evaluation of Melanocyte Loss in Mycosis Fungoides Using SOX10 Immunohistochemistry.

Mycosis fungoides (MF) is a subtype of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) with an indolent course that rarely progresses. Histologically, the lesions display a superficial lymphocytic infiltrate with epidermotropism of neoplastic T-cells. Hypopigmented MF is a rare variant that presents with hypopigmented lesions and is more likely to affect young patients.

Myocardial Calcification and the Demise of an Infant With Surgically Treated Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

A term female infant with hypoplastic left heart syndrome underwent Norwood palliation including aortic and pulmonary amalgamation with arch reconstruction, atrial septectomy, and right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit. Postoperatively, she experienced hypoxemia and lactic acidosis although echocardiogram showed adequate conduit function. She was placed on veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) on postoperative day two with improvement.

We present the case of a 30-year-old woman with a history of perinatal complications as well as bladder and urinary disease through her childhood and adult life. Microarray comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) analysis revealed a 1.3 megabase duplication at chromosome 8q21.

Next-Generation Sequencing for Minimal Residual Disease Surveillance in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: An Update.

Monitoring minimal residual disease (MRD) is an important predictor of outcome in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and is used in risk stratification, prognosis determination, and therapy guidance. Several laboratory techniques have proven utility for characterizing leukemic cells and following MRD through diagnosis, remission and possible recurrence. Methods for determining MRD are based on the detection of leukemia-specific aberrant immunophenotypes by mulitparameter flow cytometry or the evaluation of leukemia-specific rearranged immunoglobulin or T-cell receptor sequences by quantitative real-time PCR.
