The aim of this report is to present a case of chondroblastic osteosarcoma located in the right maxillary premolar region of a 17-year-old female patient. The initial clinical presentation and 2-dimensional (2D) radiographic methods proved inadequate for a definitive diagnosis. However, a cone-beam computed tomography scan revealed a hyperdense, heterogeneous lesion in the right maxillary premolar region, exhibiting a characteristic "sun-ray" appearance.

Background: As part of the measures to contain the initial cases of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in 2020, all educational facilities were closed in March 2020 and remained so for the remainder of that scholastic year. When they reopened in October 2020, most educational facilities on the Maltese islands did so with various mitigation measures in place.

Methods: A Schools Contact Tracing Team (SCTT) dedicated to the management of COVID-19 cases within schools was set up and networks established between the Ministries responsible for Health and Education to facilitate timely communication and, consequently, effective contact tracing.

Objective: The aim of this article was to review the authors' experience with hydrocolloid dressings in foot ulcers, especially in diabetic patients. Engineered as part of stomal flange, hydrocolloid dressings established their presence in wound care management after successfully protecting peristomal skin. They are occlusive dressings and have been valued for their ability to support autolytic debridement, thus removing necrotic tissue--a barrier to healing--from the wound bed.

Sentinel surveillance systems offer advantages over passive surveillance which is known to have limitations due to incomplete reporting. Sentinel surveillance gathering data from selected sources was piloted as an option for surveillance of infectious intestinal disease (IID) in Malta. Between October 2004 and May 2005, 22 general practitioners (GPs) voluntarily participated in the study and reported on the number of IID cases (by age and sex) and all primary care encounters in their practice.

Microtubule organizing centres (MTOCs), which include fungal spindle pole bodies and centrosome in higher eukaryotes, are a structurally diverse group of organelles that share a conserved role in microtubule nucleation and spindle formation. However, recent studies propose that the function of MTOC components extends far beyond these established roles. Numerous cell cycle regulators, checkpoint proteins and microtubule plus tip binding proteins localize to MTOCs during the cell cycle, suggesting that these organelles serve as cellular scaffolds.

The kinetochore, a protein complex that links chromosomes to microtubules (MTs), is required to prevent spindle expansion during S phase in budding yeast, but the mechanism of how the kinetochore maintains integrity of the bipolar spindle before mitosis is not well understood. Here, we demonstrate that a mutation of Spc24, a component of the conserved Ndc80 kinetochore complex, causes lethality when cells are exposed to the DNA replication inhibitor hydroxyurea (HU) due to premature spindle expansion and segregation of incompletely replicated DNA. Overexpression of Stu1, a CLASP-related MT-associated protein or a truncated form of the XMAP215 orthologue Stu2 rescues spc24-9 HU lethality and prevents spindle expansion.

Microtubule plus-end-interacting proteins (+TIPs) promote the dynamic interactions between the plus ends (+ends) of astral microtubules and cortical actin that are required for preanaphase spindle positioning. Paradoxically, +TIPs such as the EB1 orthologue Bim1 and Kar9 also associate with spindle pole bodies (SPBs), the centrosome equivalent in budding yeast. Here, we show that deletion of four C-terminal residues of the budding yeast gamma-tubulin Tub4 (tub4-delta dsyl) perturbs Bim1 and Kar9 localization to SPBs and Kar9-dependent spindle positioning.
