Anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty, when used for treatment of primary glenohumeral arthritis, is historically very successful. We propose a novel technique for subscapularis repair during closure of a deltopectoral approach to the shoulder with subscapularis peel. Our technique allows for early motion following surgery and also provides for improved subscapularis repair integrity and resilience during postoperative rehabilitation.

Metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint arthroplasty with pyrolytic carbon implants is a common procedure that is performed to alleviate pain from arthritis. The material properties of pyrolytic carbon are discussed with regard to their efficacy in MCP joint arthroplasty. We report a case of a painful, squeaking MCP joint arthroplasty treated with revision arthroplasty.

The organic soluble extract from the leaves of the native North American prairie plant Ipomoea leptophylla (big root morning glory) showed in vitro activity against M. tuberculosis. Bioassay-guided fractionation of this extract resulted in the identification of two new resin glycosides (6, 7).
