According to the Argentinian Ministry of Health records the number of patients requesting vasectomy increased twelve times in public hospitals in 2015-2019. The physicians and specialists account for this change in recent years, arguing, among other reasons, cultural change when male assumes active position in contraceptive methods. The article addresses vasectomized patient trajectory at the Buenos Aires University Clinical Hospital "José de San Martín".

Background: Allergen Immunotherapy (AIT) represents one of the pillars in the treatment of allergic diseases. AIT is the only therapeutic strategy with curative potential, promoting the reduction of drug use and long-term symptom control even after the end of the treatment. The European Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (EAACI) guidelines, position papers of World Allergy Organization (WAO), and the US Practice Parameters are the leading official documents that set scientific standard for the use of AIT in the world.

Methods: Measurement errors were estimated based on data from participating laboratories in the External Quality Program (PEEC) led by the Argentine Biochemistry Foundation using the "Analytical Quality Minimum Specifications" model established in Spain for other biochemical collection parameters. Semen samples from the PEEC were analyzed according to WHO procedures.
Introduction: Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic condition resulting in lung and liver disease with a great clinical variability. MicroRNAs have been identified as disease modifiers; therefore miRNA deregulation could play an important role in disease heterogeneity. Members of miR-320 family are involved in regulating of multiple processes including inflammation, and have potential specific binding sites in the 3'UTR region of SERPINA1 gene.

The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective effect of NAC on cisplatin-induced toxicity and the effect of NAC on clinical response and oxidative stress in patients treated for head and neck cancer. This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted in patients receiving high-dose cisplatin chemotherapy concomitant to radiotherapy.

Recently, a remote control (CR220) was launched in the market, that allows the performance of intraoperative tests with minimal instrumentation.
Objective: To evaluate the agreement of the impedance values and neural telemetry thresholds, and the time of performance in the conventional procedure and by the remote control.
Introduction And Objective: REDAAT, the Spanish Registry of Patients with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, was set up in order to improve knowledge of this disease. This study is an evaluation of the registry and an analysis of its patient population.
Methods: The registry has a database hosted on the website www.
Preoperative and postoperative sperm parameter values from infertile men with varicocele were analyzed by computer-aided sperm analysis (CASA) to assess if sperm characteristics improved after varicocelectomy. Semen samples of men with proven fertility (n = 38) and men with varicocele-related infertility (n = 61) were also analyzed. Conventional semen analysis was performed according to WHO (2010) criteria and a CASA system was employed to assess kinetic parameters and sperm concentration.

Methods: Retrospective and analytical study, with 59 patients divided into 2 groups (under 60 years and above 60 years old) implanted between May/2002 and February/2007.
Results: The first group (control) included 30 patients with a mean age of 44 years.
Rapid Reconstitution Packages (RRPs) are portable platforms that integrate microfluidics for rapid reconstitution of lyophilized drugs. Rapid reconstitution of lyophilized drugs using standard vials and syringes is an error-prone process. RRPs were designed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques to optimize fluidic structures for rapid mixing and integrating physical properties of targeted drugs and diluents.

Material And Methods: We used semen samples from healthy fertile men (n=33), patients who consulted for infertility with a prescription for the TUNEL assay (n=77) and patients with intracytoplasmic sperm injection failure (n=20), analyzed according to the 2010 WHO. The TUNEL/propidium iodide test was performed by flow cytometry, on baseline and post-swim-up samples.
Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is an inherited disorder responsible for early onset emphysema associated with a significant impairment of health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Our aim was to assess the usefulness of different instruments to evaluate the HRQoL in patients with AATD compared to non-AATD COPD. Observational, cross-sectional study in which all patients filled out a series of questionnaires: the COPD severity score (COPDSS), the EuroQoL 5-Dimensions (EQ-5D), the Living with COPD (LCOPD) and the COPD Assessment Test (CAT).

Sperm analysis after smoking cessation revealed a distinctive improvement in sperm concentration, fast spermatozoa (≥35 μm/s), sperm vitality, percentage of spermatozoa recuperated after an enrichment technique and protein tyrosine phosphorylation. However, no changes were observed in the number of germinal cells in the ejaculate, sperm morphology and sperm DNA fragmentation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe first approach to assessing male fertility is to study a spermiogram, where special attention is given to sperm count, motility and morphology, while less attention is given to other cells in the ejaculate. Normal spermatogenesis requires a balance between cell death and proliferation; therefore, the number of germ cells (GC) in the ejaculate is less than the number of sperm. We propose a new index for altered spermatogenesis, i.

Our purpose was to elucidate whether there is a relation between conventional sperm parameters, occurrence of TP and pregnancy outcome obtained from intrauterine insemination (IUI). Semen samples were analyzed according to WHO criteria.

Spermatozoa travel a long distance to meet and fertilize the oocyte, so sperm motility is a requisite for normal fertilization. Asthenozoospermia, or low sperm motility, is a common cause of human male infertility. This is a retrospective study (1992-1999) to document the prevalence of this pathology in infertile men and to clarify the probable factors associated to its etiology.
