Several drugs have been used to stimulate human sperm motility, including 3-deoxy-adenosine, caffeine, and pentoxifylline. Pentoxifylline is an inhibitor of the phosphodiesterase and may stimulate sperm motility by increasing the intracellular levels of cAMP. In this study we have evaluated the effect of pentoxifylline in the outcome of the sperm penetration assay into zona-free hamster oocytes.

Local application of hGRF (10 nM) produced an increase in the frequency of action potentials. Ca2+ currents were isolated by a ramp depolarizing pulse from -120 mV to +60 mV in the presence of tetrodotoxin (1 microM).

Following the widely accepted therapeutic standard of treatment of HCV infection with parenteral interferon alpha, and encouraged by the author's won good experience with orally administered natural human interferon alpha in low doses (leuHuIFN alpha (ldou)), applied to chronic active HBV hepatitis patients, this form of interferon was given to six randomly selected HCV infected patients (2 women, 4 men) aged 34-62 years. The diagnosis was made based on a clinical and histological evaluation and confirmed by anti-HCV antibodies detection. In 2 out of 6 patients, leuHuIFN alpha (ldou) was employed immediately after steroid discontinuation.

Fourteen randomly selected patients with chronic active type B hepatitis, aged 7-59 years, were assigned to treatment. All the patients had been treated for several months to several years with steroids, with no beneficial effect--clinical and biochemical symptoms of active liver disease, with histopathological progression (up to liver cirrhosis) had been permanently present.

Diagnosis of chronic aggressive viral hepatitis type B was based on clinical symptoms of disease, histopathological changes as evidenced by liver biopsy and persistence of HBV markers in patient sera. The daily dose of nIFN-alpha ranged from 75-200 IU/day.

Low doses of recombinant human interferon alfa 2a (rHuIFN-alpha 2a), were given orally in milk replacer formula to veal calves to determine the efficacy of rHuIFN-alpha 2a for protection against diarrhea, ear and/or respiratory tract infections common in vealing operations. Calves given rHuIFN-alpha 2a had fewer days and a lower incidence of diarrhea, compared to placebo-treated calves. Calves treated with rHuIFN-alpha 2a had significantly (P < 0.

This study aimed to delineate the hypothalamic and/or pituitary actions of testosterone and its primary metabolites 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone and estradiol (E) in adult castrated rams (wethers) during the breeding season. In Exp 1, wethers were treated for a week with twice daily injections (im) of peanut oil, 8, 16 or 32 mg/day testosterone propionate (TP) or dihydrotestosterone benzoate (DHTB) or an sc silastic implant containing 1 or 3 cm E. TP decreased plasma LH concentrations, increased (P less than 0.

The basis for this difference was examined in this study by determining the circulating half-life of serum FSH and LH in HPX ewes after administration of pituitary extracts and gonadotropin isoform fractions. High-speed supernatants of pituitaries from gonadal-intact and OVEX ewes were fractionated by electrofocusing in sucrose gradients and based on the pI distribution of FSH and LH divided into four pools, pH 4.

In addition, we examined the temporal relationship between the concentrations of these two hypothalamic peptides in portal blood and the concentration of GH in jugular blood. Six sheep were fed 1000 g hay/day (normal feeding) and 6 sheep were fed 400-600 g hay/day (restricted feeding).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA randomized controlled study of luteal support therapy (using intramuscular injections of progesterone and/or human chorionic gonadotropin) was conducted in a trial designed to minimize variables that might adversely affect the change of pregnancy. After applying rigid selection criteria, 207 women were recruited into one of four groups. Mathematical modeling was applied to the results to determine if there were degrees of improvement in uterine receptivity relative to various grades of embryo quality ("E" factor).
