Objective: Firearm injury research necessitates using data from often-exploited vulnerable populations of Black and Brown Americans. In order to reduce bias against protected attributes, this study provides a theoretical framework for establishing trust and transparency in the use of AI with the general population.

Methods: We propose a Model Facts template that is easily extendable and decomposes accuracy and demographics into standardized and minimally complex values.

Ureteral identification with indocyanine green in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Introduction: Fluorescence-guided surgery has emerged as a complement of traditional laparoscopic surgery with the advantage that is adaptable to existent platforms. The purpose of this article is to describe our technique for ureteral identification with indocyanine green (ICG) during laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Materials And Surgical Technique: We report a case series of all patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectal surgery and ureteral injection of ICG in a private third level hospital.

Neuroendocrine tumors in Panama: A nationwide database analysis.

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) comprise a heterogenous group of rare malignancies, which are increasing in incidence worldwide. To further understand the epidemiology of NETs in the Republic of Panama, the present study used two study groups, which included patients from several hospitals and clinics throughout the country, who were referred to the three largest national reference centers: The Complejo Hospitalario Metropolitano, Hospital Santo Tomas and Instituto Oncologico Nacional. These two groups comprised a retrospective cohort, which included cases reported between 2016 and 2017, and a second cohort, which was retrospective, but data were continuously collected from patients diagnosed with NETs between 2018 and 2019.

Risk and the Five Hard Problems of Cybersecurity.

This perspectives article addresses risk in cyber defense and identifies opportunities to incorporate risk analysis principles into the cybersecurity field. The Science of Security (SoS) initiative at the National Security Agency seeks to further and promote interdisciplinary research in cybersecurity. SoS organizes its research into the Five Hard Problems (5HP): (1) scalability and composability; (2) policy-governed secure collaboration; (3) security-metrics-driven evaluation, design, development, and deployment; (4) resilient architectures; and (5) understanding and accounting for human behavior.

Baseline characteristics, survival and direct costs associated to treatment of gastric cancer patients at the National Oncology Institute of Panama from 2012 to 2015: a hospital-based observational study.

Objectives: Comprehensive epidemiological and economic studies of gastric cancer (GC) in Panama are limited. This study aims to evaluate the association between socioeconomic and clinical variables with survival, describe the survival outcomes according to clinical stage and estimate the direct costs associated to GC care in a Panamanian population with GC.

Design And Setting: A retrospective observational study was conducted at the leading public institution for cancer treatment in Panama.

Exploring the rising incidence of neuroendocrine tumors: a population-based analysis of epidemiology, metastatic presentation, and outcomes.

Background: An increased incidence of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) has been reported worldwide, but the reasons underlying this rise have not been identified. By assessing patterns of metastatic presentation, this study sought to examine the epidemiologic characteristics of NETs and the contribution of early-stage detection to the rising incidence.

Methods: A population-based retrospective cohort study was conducted with prospectively maintained databases linked at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences.

Hepatic parenchymal preserving technique in the management of diffuse bilateral neuroendocrine tumour liver metastases: a feasible approach.

Background: Aggressive surgical resection of neuroendocrine tumour liver metastases (NET-LM) is associated with symptomatic relief. Debulking up to 90% of tumour burden, even with positive margins, may be beneficial. However, patients with diffuse hepatic metastases may not qualify for resection owing to associated insufficient remnant liver parenchyma.

Ki-67 is a reliable pathological grading marker for neuroendocrine tumors.

In neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), proliferation markers, especially Ki-67, have become increasingly important. This study was designed to examine the reproducibility of Ki-67 for use in the current classification of NETs. A retrospectively assembled integrated database with prospectively collected data of patients undergoing multidisciplinary management for NETs from 2000 to 2009 was analyzed.

Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and multivisceral resection for primary locally advanced adherent colon cancer: a single institution experience.

Background: Although there is an extensive body of literature on the role of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in the management of rectal cancer, its role in primary locally advanced adherent colon cancer (LAACC) is unclear.

Objective: To analyzed the outcomes of neoadjuvant CRT and multivisceral resection in the management of LAACC patietns.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed our institutional Colorectal Carcinoma Database for 33 patients with potentially resectable, non-metastatic primary LAACC who received neoadjuvant CRT followed by multivisceral resection.

Early predictive factors for intensive care unit readmission.

Objective: To predict readmission in intensive care unit analyzing the first 24 hours data after intensive care unit admission.

Methods: The first intensive care unit admission of patients was analyzed from January to May 2009 in a mixed unit. Readmission to the unit was considered those during the same hospital stay or within 3 months after intensive care unit discharge.

Nucleotides in embryos in the stages of morula, gastrula, and neurula.

Levels of nucleotides and sugar nucleotides in embryos of Bufo arenarum at the stages of morula, gastrula, and neurula have been measured. The total amounts of purine nucleoside diphosphates decreased from morula to gastrula, but increased sharply from gastrula to neurula. The levels of ADP followed this pattern, but those of GDP did not change significantly through the three stages.
