Diagnostic value of MPO in patients admitted for suspected acute coronary syndrome--a study of adult in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We assessed the diagnostic efficacy of plasma Myeloperoxidasis (MPO) alone or in combination with cardiac troponin I (cTnI) for detecting ACS in patients presenting with chest pain initiating within 24 h before the hospital admission. In this prospective cohort study were included all respondents who have visited outpatient clinic of internal diseases, University Hospital Mostar because of chest pain and suspected acute coronary syndrome within 24 h of the onset of the period of 6 months and the total sample consisted of 114 patients. [Mixed malignant germ cell tumor of ovary].

Introduction: Malignant tumours of ovary germ epithelium are very rare and account for about 2-5% of all ovarian tumours of germ origin. In adolescent patients under 20 years of age diagnosed to have ovarian tumour, these tumours originate from germ cells in about 70% of cases. Depending on the stage of the disease, medical treatment and age, the death rate ranges from 25% to 84%.

[Recent findings regarding physiological characteristics and effects of renal dopamine].

During the past decade, it has become evident that dopamine acts not only as a classical neurotransmitter in the central and peripheral nervous system but also as an autocrine, paracrine and/or endocrine substance in peripheral, non-neuronal tissues. This work is aimed to review some of the recent aspects related to the physiological features and effects of renal origin dopamine. Renal dopamine is synthesized in the proximal tubule epithelial cells.

[Premalignant and malignant lesions of the uterine cervix--personal experience].

[Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans: case report].

Objective: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a relatively rare, slow-growing, fibrohistiocytic sarcoma of intermediate malignancy. The tumor appears most frequently on the trunk and extremities as a slow-growing indurated plaque or nodule. It appears mostly between the second and fifth decades of life.

[Perineal endometriosis at the site of an episiotomy scar].

This study presents a case of vaginoperineal histologically verified endometriosis at the site of episiotomy scar in a 40-year female subject, 17 years after delivery. Apart from episiotomy during delivery manual revision of the uterus was performed and the cervical rupture managed. Residue symptoms occurs 8 months after the first surgical excision.

[Ultrasonic characteristics of kidneys in chronic kidney insufficiency].

Ultrasound examination of kidneys obtains various information on the state of kidneys which may point to the function itself: the size of kidneys, their shape, the state of edges and cortex, their relation with the surrounding tissues and organs, parenchymal structure and width, presence of delay in the conveying system, nature of obstacles as well as their localization. Excretory, intravenous urography is mostly impossible to perform in patients with renal insufficiency so that is why we mainly practice ultrasound checkups and laboratory analyses in surveying the state of kidneys. This is a report on a sample of patients with chronic renal insufficiency who were on chronic hemodialyses.

Largactil (chlorpromasine) and cervical dilatation in primiparae.

The effects of Largactil on cervical maturation and dilatation during induced labour in primiparous women were investigated. The obtained results suggest that Largactil has significant influence on the maturation and dilatation of the cervix in severely "neurotic" women relative to "non-neurotic" women.

Preliminary report on vaccination in Croatia against poliomyelitis with type 1 (CHAT) and type 3 (W-Fox) attenuated polioviruses of Koprowski.

The incidence of poliomyelitis in the People's Republic of Croatia has progressively increased since 1945, and in 1953 and 1960 there were serious epidemics. In order to protect the age-groups at greatest risk a mass vaccination campaign was carried out with Koprowski live-virus vaccine in the early spring of 1961, covering the entire population aged 3 months to 20 years. Altogether 1 339 244 persons were given type 1 (CHAT strain), and 1 287 909 received type 3 (W-Fox).
