Cisplatin-based chemotherapy is commonly used for the clinical treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the anti-tumor efficacy of cisplatin is limited by poor clinical response and the development of chemoresistance. At present, the underlying mechanism for cisplatin resistance remains unclear.

Chiral Metal-Organic Framework Decorated with TEMPO Radicals for Sequential Oxidation/Asymmetric Cyanation Catalysis.

A chiral porous metal-organic framework (MOF) decorated with radicals has been successfully constructed by cocrystallizing achiral (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxyl (TEMPO)-substituted tricarboxylate and enantiopure VO(salen)-derived dipyridine ligands. The chiral MOF can function as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the sequential alcohol oxidation/asymmetric cyanation of aldehyde reactions with enhanced activity and enantioselectivity compared to the homogeneous counterpart.

Supramolecular Coordination Cages for Asymmetric Catalysis.

Inspired by the high efficiency and specificity of enzymes in living systems, the development of artificial catalysts intrinsic to the key features of enzyme has emerged as an active field. Recent advances in supramolecular chemistry have shown that supramolecular coordination cages, built from non-covalent coordination bonds, offer a diverse platform for enzyme mimics. Their inherent confined cavity, analogous to the binding pocket of an enzyme, and the facile tunability of building blocks are essential for substrate recognition, transition-state stabilization, and product release.

Double fertilization in angiosperms requires the targeted delivery of immotile sperm to the eggs through pollen tubes. The polarity of tip-growing pollen tubes is maintained through dynamic association of active Rho GTPases of plants (ROP-GTP) with the apical plasma membrane. Guanine nucleotide exchange factors for ROPs (RopGEFs) catalyze the activation of ROPs and thereby affect spatiotemporal ROP signaling.

Protective Effect of Sulfated Polysaccharides from Celluclast-Assisted Extract of Against Ultraviolet B-Induced Skin Damage by Regulating NF-κB, AP-1, and MAPKs Signaling Pathways In Vitro in Human Dermal Fibroblasts.

Our previous study evaluated the antioxidant activities of sulfated polysaccharides from Celluclast-assisted extract of (HFPS) in Vero cells and in zebrafish. The results showed that HFPS possesses strong antioxidant activity and suggested the potential photo-protective activities of HFPS. Hence, in the present study, we investigated the protective effects of HFPS against ultraviolet (UV) B-induced skin damage in human dermal fibroblasts (HDF cells).

Enantioselective Separation over a Chiral Biphenol-Based Metal-Organic Framework.

A chiral porous 3D metal-organic framework (MOF) is constructed from an enantiopure carboxylate ligand of 1,1'-biphenol, which can be utilized as adsorbent for the separation of aromatic alcohols and sulfoxides with enantioselectivity of up to 99.4%. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals the binding sites and host-guest interactions clearly, providing microscopic insight into the origin of the enantiosorption in the framework.

High-Voltage Flexible Microsupercapacitors Based on Laser-Induced Graphene.

High-voltage energy-storage devices are quite commonly needed for robots and dielectric elastomers. This paper presents a flexible high-voltage microsupercapacitor (MSC) with a planar in-series architecture for the first time based on laser-induced graphene. The high-voltage devices are capable of supplying output voltages ranging from a few to thousands of volts.

Identification of a novel PLCD1 mutation in Chinese Han pedigree with hereditary leukonychia and koilonychia.

Background: Hereditary leukonychia is a rare nail dystrophy characterized by distinctive whitening of the nail plate. Mutations in the PLCD1 gene have been identified as a major causative factor in hereditary leukonychia (HL). However, few reports have analyzed the relationship between genotype and phenotype, especially in Chinese HL patients.

Enhancing the Performance of the Half Tin and Half Lead Perovskite Solar Cells by Suppression of the Bulk and Interfacial Charge Recombination.

In this article it is investigated how the hole extraction layer (HEL) influence the charge recombination and performance in half tin and half lead (FASn Pb I ) based solar cells (HPSCs). FASn Pb I film grown on PEDOT:PSS displays a large number of pin-holes and open grain boundaries, resulting in a high defect density and shunts in the perovskite film causing significant bulk and interfacial charge recombination in the HPSCs. By contrast, FASn Pb I films grown on PCP-Na, an anionic conjugated polymer, show compact and pin-hole free morphology over a large area, which effectively eliminates the shunts and trap states.

Diabetes Medication Use in Association with Survival among Patients of Breast, Colorectal, Lung, or Gastric Cancer.

Purpose: Studies suggest that regular use of metformin may decrease cancer mortality. We investigated the association between diabetes medication use and cancer survival.

Materials And Methods: The current study includes 633 breast, 890 colorectal, 824 lung, and 543 gastric cancer cases identified from participants of two population-based cohort studies in Shanghai.

Toward Efficient Polymer Solar Cells Processed by a Solution-Processed Layer-By-Layer Approach.

The solution-processed layer-by-layer (LBL) method has potential to achieve high-performance polymer solar cells (PSCs) due to its advantage of enriching donors near the anode and acceptors near the cathode. However, power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of the LBL-PSCs are still significantly lower than those of conventional one-step-processed PSCs (OS-PSCs). A method to solve the critical problems in LBL-PSCs is reported here.

The evolutionary road from wild moth to domestic silkworm.

The Silk Road, which derives its name from the trade of silk produced by the domestic silkworm Bombyx mori, was an important episode in the development and interaction of human civilizations. However, the detailed history behind silkworm domestication remains ambiguous, and little is known about the underlying genetics with respect to important aspects of its domestication. Here, we reconstruct the domestication processes and identify selective sweeps by sequencing 137 representative silkworm strains.

Isoliquiritigenin attenuates spinal tuberculosis through inhibiting immune response in a New Zealand white rabbit model.

Spinal tuberculosis (ST) is the tuberculosis caused by () infections in spinal curds. Isoliquiritigenin 4,2',4'-trihydroxychalcone, ISL) is an anti-inflammatory flavonoid derived from licorice (), a Chinese traditional medicine. In this study, we evaluated the potential of ISL in treating ST in New Zealand white rabbit models.

Changes of bladder mucosal inflammatory factors and prognosis in cystitis glandularis.

To investigate the relationships of bladder mucosal inflammatory factors, interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) with the occurrence and development of cystitis glandularis (CG), and their effects on the prognosis. A total of 61 patients with CG from January 2010 to 2014 were randomly selected. Tissue specimens of postoperative patients were collected.

Surgical Trauma Exacerbates Cognitive Deficits and Neuroinflammation in Aged Rats: The Role of CX3CL1-CX3CR1 Signaling.

Age is the most prominent risk factor for the development of postoperative cognitive dysfunction. The present study investigated the role of CX3CL1-CX3CR1 signaling in age-related differences in surgery-induced cognitive deficits and neuroinflammation. Adult and aged male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to partial hepatectomy or partial hepatectomy with intracerebroventricular infusion of CX3CL1.

Simultaneous determination of plasma methotrexate and 7-hydroxy methotrexate by UHPLC-MS/MS in patients receiving high-dose methotrexate therapy.

The plasma concentrations of methotrexate (MTX) and its major metabolite 7-hydroxy methotrexate (7-OH-MTX) are highly correlated with the toxicities in patients with high-dose MTX therapy. Routine monitoring of MTX and 7-OH-MTX plasma levels is useful for dose adjustment of rescue drugs and toxicity prevention. A UHPLC-MS/MS method for simultaneous determination of plasma MTX and 7-OH-MTX was developed, validated, and applied in 181 plasma samples.

Comprehensive Clinical Profile of Mal De Debarquement Syndrome.

Background: There has been increasing awareness that post-motion triggered rocking self-vertigo can last for months or years, a disorder known as Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS). A similar feeling of oscillating self-motion can occur without a motion trigger in some individuals, leading to controversy about whether motion triggered (MT) and non-motion triggered (non-MT) symptoms ultimately represent the same disorder. Recognizing the similarities and differences between MT and non-MT MdDS can prevent unnecessary diagnostic testing and lead to earlier and more effective treatments.

Protective immune response against Toxoplasma gondii elicited by a novel yeast-based vaccine with microneme protein 16.

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan that can invade all eukaryotic cells and infect all warm-blood animals, causing the important zoonosis toxoplasmosis. Invasion of host cells is the key step necessary for T. gondii to complete its life cycle and microneme proteins play an important role in attachment and invasion of host cells.

[Construction and expression of multi-gene recombinant plasmid pEG-FP-N1-HBsAg-ROP2].

Objective: To construct pEGFP-N1-HBsAg-ROP2 recombinant expression plasmid and transfect HEK293T cells for expression, and pay a way for nucleic acid vaccine development.

Methods: According to the HBsAg gene sequence and pcDNA3-p30-ROP2 recombinant plasmid restriction sites, the HBsAg gene was amplified by PCR. The HBsAg gene was cloned into the pcDNA3-p30-ROP2 and instead of p30 gene.

To evaluate the clinical value of submucosal injection of pharyngeal ostium of Eustachian tube in diagnosing patulous Eustachian tube(PET).Twenty-six patients(32 sides),whose the symptoms were consistent with PET,were enrolled from March 2014 to May 2016.The symptoms and signs of all patients were evaluated after submucosal injection of saline into the Eustachian tube.

[Modeling evapotranspiration of greenhouse tomato under different water conditions based on the dual crop coefficient method].

An experiment was conducted to investigate soil evaporation (E), crop transpiration (T), evapotranspiration (ET) and the ratio of evaporation to evapotranspiration (E/ET) of drip-irrigated tomato, which was planted in a typical solar greenhouse in the North China, under different water conditions [irrigation amount was determined based on accumulated pan evaporation (E) of 20 cm pan evaporation, and two treatments were designed with full irrigation (0.9E) and deficit irrigation (0.5E)] at different growth stages in 2015 and 2016 at Xinxiang Comprehensive Experimental Station, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Arsenic and nickel are common contaminants that usually co-exist in many contaminated natural and mining environments. More research on the interaction of these two contaminants is needed such as their coordination structure and occurrence state at mineral-water interfaces. In this study, we investigated the structure of surface complexes and surface precipitates formed by co-existing As(V) and Ni(II) ions at the ferrihydrite-water interface by varying the order of adsorption processes, pH, aging time and Ni(II) concentration using attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR).

Primary pulmonary meningioma presenting as a micro solid nodule: A rare case report.

An ectopic meningioma, such as a primary pulmonary meningioma (PPM), is a rare type of tumor that primarily originates outside of the central nervous system. A 65-year-old female patient underwent a thoracoscopic lung wedge resection of the right lower lobe for a micro solid nodule detected via computed tomography. The histologic result revealed a PPM.
