  • - The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of robot-assisted (RA) minimally invasive surgery against traditional fluoroscopy-assisted (FA) open posterior fixation for treating thoracolumbar fractures in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) through a retrospective analysis of 21 cases. - Results showed that while the operation time was similar for both groups, the RA group had significantly less intraoperative blood loss and shorter hospital stays, but experienced greater radiation exposure and dose compared to the FA group. - Additionally, the RA group had a higher proportion of clinically acceptable screw placements, as per the Gertzbein-Robbins criteria, indicating possibly better surgical precision. Both groups reported improvements in pain and nerve function post-surgery.

Bacterial resistance caused by β-lactamases has been a major threat to public health around the world, seriously weakening the efficacy of β-lactam antibiotics, the most widely used therapeutic agents against infectious diseases. To detect the bacterial resistance to β-lactam antibiotics, particularly specific type of β-lactam antibiotics, in a rapid manner, we report herein a relay-response chemiluminescence assay. This assay mainly consists of two reagents: a β-lactam-caged thiophenol and a thiophenol-sensitive chemiluminescence reporter, both of which are synthetically feasible.

Background: Aniridia is a rare eye disorder with a high incidence of glaucoma, and surgical intervention is often needed to control the intraocular pressure (IOP). Here, we reported a case of illuminated microcatheter-assisted circumferential trabeculotomy (MAT) performed on an aniridic glaucoma patient following a previous failed angle surgery. By integrating QTL mapping, transcriptomics and metabolomics, 138 hub genes were identified in rapeseed root response to aluminum stress and mainly involved in metabolism of lipids, carbohydrates and secondary metabolites. Aluminum (Al) toxicity has become one of the important abiotic stress factors in areas with acid soil, which hinders the absorption of water and nutrients by roots, and consequently retards the growth of crops. A deeper understanding of the stress-response mechanism of Brassica napus may allow us to identify the tolerance gene(s) and use this information in breeding-resistant crop varieties.

Melatonin secreted by the pineal body is associated with the occurrence and development of idiopathic scoliosis. Melatonin has a concentration‑dependent dual effect on osteoblast proliferation, in which higher concentrations can inhibit osteoblast proliferation and induce apoptosis; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In the present study, flow cytometry was used to demonstrate that osteoblast cells treated with melatonin exhibited significantly increased early and late stage apoptotic rates as the concentration increased.

Objective: There are few reports on the robot-assisted percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF), and we aimed to explore the learning curve of the robot-assisted PKP for treating OVCF.

Our previous study demonstrated that remifentanil, an opioid agonist, conferred profound liver protection during hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury (HIRI), in which Toll-like receptors (TLRs) played a crucial role in mediating the inflammatory responses. β-arrestin2, a well-known mu opioid receptor desensitizer, is also a negatively regulator of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-mediated inflammatory reactions in a mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)-dependent manner. Using the rodent models of hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury both in wild type and TLR4 knockout (TLR4 KO) mice, we found that remifentanil preconditioning could inhibit the expression of TLR4 and reduce the inflammatory response induced by HIRI in wild type but not in TLR4 KO mice.
