Prognostic impact of circulating tumor DNA detection in portal and peripheral blood in resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients.

In PDAC patients, ctDNA detection's prognostic significance needs validation especially in resected patients. This study investigated ctDNA kinetics in portal and peripheral blood before and after resection, and whether tissue mobilization during surgery influences ctDNA detection. In this single-center prospective cohort, portal and peripheral blood were drawn during pancreaticoduodenectomy before and after tissue mobilization, during 12 postoperative months and were associated with overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS) and CA19-9 (secondary endpoints).

Factors associated with gingival recession prevalence in undergraduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad de los Andes in the year 2022.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of gingival recessions in students of the faculty of odontology at Universidad de Los Andes and the factor associated with its presence.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a randomized stratified sampling was used to select the students. The sample included 311 undergraduate students evaluated between March and December 2022.

Curative surgical treatment of common bile duct stones: Retrospective cohort study.

Background: In the event of symptomatic common bile duct (CBD) stones with dilated CBD, one possible curative treatment option is stone extraction through choledocotomy associated with cholecystectomy. Endoscopic treatment is only reserved for residual stones at 6 weeks. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results from laparoscopic curative surgical treatment of CBD stones with dilated CBD.

1,2-Azolylamidino ruthenium(II) complexes with DMSO ligands: electro- and photocatalysts for CO reduction.

New 1,2-azolylamidino complexes -[RuCl(DMSO)(NHC(R)az*-κN,N)]OTf [R = Me (2), Ph (3); az* = pz (pyrazolyl, a), indz (indazolyl, b)] are synthesized chloride abstraction from their corresponding precursors ,-[RuCl(DMSO)(az*H)] (1) after subsequent base-catalyzed coupling of the appropriate nitrile with the 1,2-azole previously coordinated. All the compounds are characterized by H NMR, C NMR and IR spectroscopy. Those derived from MeCN are also characterized by X-ray diffraction.

Luminescent Bis(bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) Complexes with 1,2-Azolylamidino Ligands: Photophysical, Electrochemical Studies, and Photocatalytic Oxidation of Thioethers.

New 1,2-azolylamidino complexes -[Ru(bipy)(NH═C(R)az*-κ,)](OTf) (R = Me, Ph; az* = pz, indz, dmpz) are synthesized via chloride abstraction after a subsequent base-catalyzed coupling of a nitrile with the previously coordinated 1,2-azole. The synthetic procedure allows the easy obtainment of complexes having different electronic and steric 1,2-azoylamidino ligands. All of the compounds have been characterized by H, C, and N NMR and IR spectroscopy and by monocrystal X-ray diffraction.

Management of anastomotic biliary stricture after liver transplantation and impact on survival.

Background: Anastomotic biliary strictures (AS) is the main surgical complication after liver transplantation. The aims of this study are to investigate the risk factors of AS, its management and its impact on overall survival and survival of the graft.

Methods: All patients who had received a liver transplantation with duct-to-duct anastomosis at Toulouse University Hospital between 2010 and 2016 were included.

New -(1,2-azole)-aquo bis(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) (1,2-azole (az*H) = pzH (pyrazole), dmpzH (3,5-dimethylpyrazole), and indzH (indazole)) complexes are synthesized via chlorido abstraction from -[Ru(bipy)Cl(az*H)]OTf. The latter are obtained from -[Ru(bipy)Cl] after the subsequent coordination of the 1,2-azole. All the compounds are characterized by H, C, N NMR spectroscopy as well as IR spectroscopy.

Luminescent Rhenium(I)tricarbonyl Complexes Containing Different Pyrazoles and Their Successive Deprotonation Products: CO Reduction Electrocatalysts.

Cationic -[Re(CO)(pz*H)(pypzH)]OTf (pz*H = pyrazole, pzH; 3,5-dimethylpyrazole, dmpzH; indazole, indzH; 3-(2-pyridyl)pyrazole, pypzH) were obtained from -[ReBr(CO)(pypzH)] by halide abstraction with AgOTf and subsequent addition of the corresponding pyrazole. Successive deprotonation with NaCO and NaOH gave neutral -[Re(CO)(pz*H)(pypz)] and anionic Na{-[Re(CO)(pz*)(pypz)]} complexes, respectively. Cationic -[Re(CO)(pz*H)(pypzH)]OTf, neutral complexes -[Re(CO)(pz*H)(pypz)], and -[Re(CO)(pypz)Na] were subjected to photophysical and electrochemical studies.

Enhanced photocatalytic activity of BiVO powders synthesized in presence of EDTA for the decolorization of rhodamine B from aqueous solution.

Bismuth vanadate (BiVO) powders were successfully synthesized in presence of EDTA via microwave irradiation and used as photocatalysts in the oxidation reaction of rhodamine B (rhB) under visible light. Different concentrations of EDTA (0.5 to 10%) to chelate Bi ions were employed on the BiVO synthesis.

Use of routine CT-SCANS to detect severe postoperative complications after pancreato-duodenectomy.

Background: To evaluate the performance of CT-scans performed one week after pancreato-duodenectomy (PD) to detect severe postoperative complications requiring an invasive treatment.

Patients And Methods: This monocentric retrospective study was conducted on data collected between 2005 and 2013. Patients undergoing PD underwent CT-scan with IV contrast at the end of the first postoperative week.

Metformin as a prophylactic treatment of gestational diabetes in pregnant patients with pregestational insulin resistance: A randomized study.

Aim: We aimed to assess the use of metformin (MTF) in the prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in patients with pregestational insulin resistance (PIR).

Methods: A double blind, multicenter, randomized trial was carried out in patients with a history of PIR and pregestational MTF treatment. Groups were allocated either to MTF 1700 mg/day or placebo.

Global, regional, and national disease burden estimates of acute lower respiratory infections due to respiratory syncytial virus in young children in 2015: a systematic review and modelling study.

Background: We have previously estimated that respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was associated with 22% of all episodes of (severe) acute lower respiratory infection (ALRI) resulting in 55 000 to 199 000 deaths in children younger than 5 years in 2005. In the past 5 years, major research activity on RSV has yielded substantial new data from developing countries. With a considerably expanded dataset from a large international collaboration, we aimed to estimate the global incidence, hospital admission rate, and mortality from RSV-ALRI episodes in young children in 2015.

Conversion of lowland tropical forests to tree cash crop plantations loses up to one-half of stored soil organic carbon.

Tropical deforestation for the establishment of tree cash crop plantations causes significant alterations to soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics. Despite this recognition, the current Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) tier 1 method has a SOC change factor of 1 (no SOC loss) for conversion of forests to perennial tree crops, because of scarcity of SOC data. In this pantropic study, conducted in active deforestation regions of Indonesia, Cameroon, and Peru, we quantified the impact of forest conversion to oil palm (Elaeis guineensis), rubber (Hevea brasiliensis), and cacao (Theobroma cacao) agroforestry plantations on SOC stocks within 3-m depth in deeply weathered mineral soils.

Direct evidence for GABAergic activity of Withania somnifera on mammalian ionotropic GABAA and GABAρ receptors.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Withania somnifera (WS) has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine as a remedy for debility, stress, nervous exhaustion, insomnia, loss of memory, and to enhance cognitive function. This study provides an empirical evidence to support the traditional use of WS to aid in mental process engaging GABAergic signaling.

Aim Of The Study: We evaluated the effect of aqueous WS root extract (aqWS), and its two main components, withaferin A and withanolide A, on the main inhibitory receptors in the central nervous system: ionotropic GABAA receptors.

Nifedipine versus fenoterol in the management of preterm labor: a randomized, multicenter clinical study.

Halogen substituents on the aromatic moiety of the tetracaine scaffold improve potency of cyclic nucleotide-gated channel block.

A series of new tetracaine derivatives with substituents on the aromatic ring was prepared and evaluated for block of retinal rod cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels. Aromatic substitutions had little effect starting with the basic tetracaine scaffold, but electron-withdrawing substituents significantly improved the blocking potency of an octyl-tail derivative of tetracaine. In particular, halogen substitutions at either the 2- or 3-position on the ring resulted in compounds that were up to eight-fold more potent than the parent octyl-tail derivative and up to 50-fold more potent than tetracaine.

Decline in rotavirus hospitalizations and health care visits for childhood diarrhea following rotavirus vaccination in El Salvador.

Background: A recent postlicensure study from El Salvador showed that the monovalent rotavirus vaccine conferred 76% protection against rotavirus hospitalizations. We further examined the impact of rotavirus vaccination on the national burden of childhood diarrhea to help assess the total public health benefits of vaccination.

Methods: We compared all-cause diarrhea and rotavirus-specific hospitalization rates during prevaccine year 2006, with postvaccine years 2008 and 2009 in children < 5 years of age from 7 sentinel surveillance hospitals.

During the past century, nurses have served as caregivers for United States military personnel in every major theater of war. Military nurses in the war zone deliver patient care while working in austere conditions, and are under constant threat of personal danger. This article gives a historical overview of the role of nurses in war zones, followed by a review from the perspectives of environment, safety, the nature of injuries, and treatment of military personnel and civilians.

[Treatment of chondral lesions from knee injuries in the professional soccer players. Review of 34 cases].

Objective: Evaluate the results of Pridie chondroplasty as an efficient treatment to recover the complete activity in soccer players and compare this with others chondral repair techniques.

Material And Methods: The patients were professional soccer players, all with a knee cartilage injury treated with the Pridie technique in an arthroscopic surgery between March 1999--December 2004. The age of the patients and the presence of a simple meniscal tear wasn't a fact to exclude a patient.
