Outcome of Treatment in Verrucous Carcinoma of Oral Cavity: A Tertiary Rural Hospital Experience.

Verrucous carcinoma of oral cavity is a highly well differentiated variant of squamous cell carcinoma with a low potential for invasion and metastasis. It is prevalent in the tobacco quid chewing population in our region. In this observational study, we reviewed the medical case records of 58 patients treated for oral verrucous carcinoma staged T2 to T4a.

Pitfalls in Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology Diagnosis of Ductal Carcinoma in a Lactating Breast.

Breast undergoes hormonal changes, especially during pregnancy and postpartum period and may be associated with benign and malignant lesions. These lesions can arise either or can be an exacerbated change occurring in a preexisting breast lesion. The benign lesion in the lactating breast can show some degree of atypia due to the high levels of progesterone and prolactin which can mimic malignant features microscopically and can be overdiagnosed with breast cancer.

Leishman-Giemsa Cocktail - Is it an Effective Stain for Air Dried Cytology Smears.

Introduction: Air dried cytology smears are stained routinely with Romanowsky stains so that the relative cell size, nuclear size, cytoplasmic details, smear background elements and intercellular matrix components are better appreciated. A variety of modified Romanowsky stains are used in cytology. Leishman-Giemsa (LG) cocktail is one of the new staining techniques which can be used for staining the air dried cytology smears.

An Unusual Case of Appendiceal Carcinoid Tumor in a Child- Case Report.

Carcinoid tumors of the appendix are rare in children. They clinically present with features of acute appendicitis and are often diagnosed incidentally on the resected specimens. Local disease carries an excellent prognosis and simple appendicectomy suffices, whereas advanced cases need a right hemicolectomy.

Pseudovascular adenoid squamous cell carcinoma of oral cavity: A mimicker of angiosarcoma.

Pseudovascular adenoid squamous cell carcinoma (PASCC) is an uncommon histological variant of squamous cell carcinoma that can mimic vascular neoplasms, particularly angiosarcoma, in its morphologic characteristics. PASCC has been reported in the head and neck, as well as in the other organs such as the breast, lungs, urinary bladder, vulva, and uterine cervix. Only two cases of PASCC arising from the upper aerodigestive tract have been reported so far.

Exflagellated microgametes of Plasmodium vivax in human peripheral blood: an uncommon feature of malaria.

In the life cycle of malarial parasite exflagellation of microgametes occur in mosquitoes. Usually this will not occur in the peripheral blood of human beings. However, exflagellation can occur in the collected blood and may create diagnostic dilemma.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor with divergent differentiation.

A malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is an uncommon spindle cell sarcoma accounting for approximately 5% of all soft tissue sarcomas. A 55-year-old female with a right suprarenal tumor showed MPNST with additional foci of epithelioid, rhabdomyoblastic, osteogenic and lipogenic differentiation. Although the capacity of MPNST to undergo epithelioid, rhabdomyoblastic, osteogenic and very rarely lipogenic differentiation is reported in literature, the occurrence of all these differentiation in one case has not been described in literature before.

Anticoagulant induced artefacts in peripheral blood smears.

Microscopic evaluation of a peripheral blood smear is one of the most beneficial test. But anticoagulant induced artefacts could lead to misinterpretation of the smears. The present study was undertaken to identify the anticoagulant induced artefacts and avoid misinterpretation of peripheral blood smears.
