Invasive infections account for 15 to 50% of fatal bloodstream infections annually. These disseminated infections often arise without a defined portal of entry into the host but cause high rates of mortality. The fungus and the Gram-positive bacterium can form polymicrobial biofilms on epithelial tissue, facilitated by the adhesin encoded by While a bacterium-fungus interaction is required for systemic infection, the mechanism by which bacteria disseminate from the epithelium to internal organs is unclear.

: IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) may present as 'idiopathic' retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRPF). We aimed to determine the occurrence of IgG4-retroperitoneal fibrosis (IgG4-RPF) in a nationwide study on patients with newly diagnosed IRPF, and to compare histopathological, imaging, and clinical features in the IgG4-RPF and non-IgG4-RPF subsets. : The National Danish Pathology Register was searched for biopsy codes relating to retroperitoneal tissue from 1 January 2004 to 31 December 2013.

Various mammalian small heat-shock proteins (sHSPs) can interact with one another to form large polydisperse assemblies. In muscle cells, HSPB2/MKBP (myotonic dystrophy protein kinase-binding protein) and HSPB3 have been shown to form an independent complex. To date, the biochemical properties of this complex have not been thoroughly characterized.

Bovine eye lens alpha-crystallin was covalently labeled with 6-bromomethyl-4'-diethylamino-3-hydroxyflavone and studied under native-like conditions and at the elevated temperature (60 degrees C) that is known to facilitate alpha-crystallin chaperone-like activity. This novel SH-reactive two-band ratiometric fluorescent probe is characterized by two highly emissive N*- and T*-bands; the latter appears due to excited state intramolecular proton transfer reaction. The positions of these bands and the ratio of their intensities for the alpha-crystallin-dye conjugate are the sensitive indicators of polarity of the dye environment and its participation in intermolecular hydrogen bonding.

Small heat shock proteins play an important role in the stress response of cells and in several other cellular functions. They possess chaperone-like activity; i.e.
