Increased Synthesis of MCL-1 Protein Underlies Initial Survival of -Mutant Lung Cancer to EGFR Inhibitors and Provides a Novel Drug Target.

EGFR inhibitors (EGFRi) are effective against -mutant lung cancers. The efficacy of these drugs, however, is mitigated by the outgrowth of resistant cells, most often driven by a secondary acquired mutation in EGFR, We recently demonstrated that can arise during treatment; it follows that one potential therapeutic strategy to thwart resistance would be identifying and eliminating these cells [referred to as drug-tolerant cells (DTC)] prior to acquiring secondary mutations like We have developed DTCs to EGFRi in -mutant lung cancer cell lines. Subsequent analyses of DTCs included RNA-seq, high-content microscopy, and protein translational assays.

Recovery over 6 months of medical decision-making capacity after traumatic brain injury.

Objective: To investigate recovery of medical decision-making capacity (MDC) over 6 months in persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI) stratified by injury severity.

Design: Longitudinal study comparing controls and patients with TBI 1 month after injury (t1) and 6 months after injury (t2).

Setting: Inpatient TBI rehabilitation unit and outpatient neurology department.

Improving the rate and quality of medicaid well child care exams in primary care practices.

Background: Providing recommended well child care to children insured bythe Medicaid Program can be challenging. Members of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM) at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center contracted to help practices improve the rates and quality of well child care visits within the Oklahoma Medicaid Program.

Methods: Sixteen pediatric and family medicine practices in three Oklahoma counties chose to participate in this quality improvement initiative.

Patient-physician e-mail communication revisited a decade later: an OKPRN study.

In private community-based primary care practices in Oklahoma, approximately two thirds of patients now have access to a computer and e-mail either at home or work. A substantial majority would like to use e-mail to communicate with their primary care clinicians. Since 1997, rural patients have caught up with urbanites in their access to computers.

Reported fatigue, difficulty, and cardiovascular response to a memory challenge.

Female undergraduates were presented the opportunity to earn a small chance of winning a modest prize by memorizing in 2 min two or six nonsense trigrams (meaningless series of three letters, such as AED). Analysis of cardiovascular measures taken during the work period indicated that systolic blood pressure responses first rose and then fell with self-reported fatigue in the two trigram condition. By contrast, the responses declined with self-reported fatigue in the six trigram condition, starting relatively high and ending low.
