The Antagonist pGlu-βGlu-Pro-NH Binds to an Allosteric Site of the Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone Receptor.

After we identified pGlu-βGlu-Pro-NH as the first functional antagonist of the cholinergic central actions of the thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH, pGlu-His-Pro-NH), we became interested in finding the receptor-associated mechanism responsible for this antagonism. By utilizing a human TRH receptor (hTRH-R) homology model, we first refined the active binding site within the transmembrane bundle of this receptor to enhance TRH's binding affinity. However, this binding site did not accommodate the TRH antagonist.

Utilization of lean project management principles and health informatics to reduce operating room delays in a vascular surgery practice.

Objectives: Perioperative inefficiency can increase cost. We describe a process improvement initiative that addressed preoperative delays on an academic vascular surgery service.

Methods: First case vascular surgeries from July 2019-January 2020 were retrospectively reviewed for delays, defined as late arrival to the operating room (OR).

Objective: To analyze the association between the experiences of sexuality and quality of life in older adults.

Method: Cross-sectional study developed with a total of 300 older adults living in northeastern Brazil. Data collection was carried out entirely online between August and October 2020.

Exploiting this phenomenon has led to a growth of evidence supporting the use of FDG PET-CT in a wide range of infective and inflammatory diseases.

Implications of self-reported fragility on the quality of life of older adults: a cross-sectional study.

Objective: To analyze the association between self-reported fragility and quality of life in older adults.

Method: Cross-sectional study carried out with Brazilian older adults between July and October 2020. Three instruments were applied to obtain bio sociodemographic, frailty data and quality of life.

Development of a multi-component intervention to promote participation of Black and Latinx individuals in biomedical research.

Introduction: Barriers to research participation by racial and ethnic minority group members are multi-factorial, stem from historical social injustices and occur at participant, research team, and research process levels. The informed consent procedure is a key component of the research process and represents an opportunity to address these barriers. This manuscript describes the development of the Strengthening Translational Research in Diverse Enrollment (STRIDE) intervention, which aims to improve research participation by individuals from underrepresented groups.

Asymptomatic full-term infants born to women with chorioamnionitis may not need routine antibiotics.

Aim: While infants with early-onset sepsis require antibiotics, there is little evidence to support their routine use in asymptomatic infants exposed to maternal chorioamnionitis. We aimed to ascertain the incidence of culture-proven sepsis in full-term infants exposed to chorioamnionitis and to determine whether asymptomatic infants need routine antibiotic treatment.

Methods: This study was retrospective.

Pathologic features and molecular identification of parelaphostrongylosis in a sitatunga (Tragelaphus spekii).

We report the pathologic features, local inflammatory response immunophenotype, and molecular identification results of cerebral nematodiasis in a young sitatunga (Tragelaphus spekii) from Texas. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of cerebral nematodiasis by Parelaphostrongylus tenuis in a sitatunga, a bovid species introduced into the USA, and the first characterization of the local inflammatory response immunoprofile in this condition. A molecular identification method based on formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded-polymerase chain reaction was described.

Cost-Utility Analysis of Eculizumab for the Treatment of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria From the Perspective of the Brazilian Public Health System.

Objective: To perform a first cost-utility analysis of eculizumab for the treatment of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria from the perspective of the Brazilian Unified Health System.

Methods: A Markov decision model was developed for 35-year-old patients with symptomatic paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. We used a cycle length of one month and a time horizon of 20 years.

Objectives: to propose quality indicators for clinical nursing documentation.

Methods: methodological study in which literature review guided the composition of an instrument for evaluating nursing documentation. Two independent professionals evaluated 204 medical records of adult patients.

Iron(II) and Copper(I) Control the Total Regioselectivity in the Hydrobromination of Alkenes.

A new method that allows the complete control of the regioselectivity of the hydrobromination reaction of alkenes is described. Herein, we report a radical procedure with TMSBr and oxygen as common reagents, where the formation of the -Markovnikov product occurs in the presence of parts per million amounts of the Cu(I) species and the formation of the Markovnikov product occurs in the presence of 30 mol % iron(II) bromide. Density functional theory calculations combined with Fukui's radical susceptibilities support the obtained results.

[Palatine tonsil lymphoma: a pediatric case report].

Lymphoma is the most common childhood malignancy in the head and neck. The most common clinical manifestations of lymphoma in palatine tonsil are the tonsils asymmetry, alteration in the appearance of the mucous and cervical lymphadenopathy. The unilateral tonsillar hypertrophy must be differentiated with infectious processes, with chronic processes, other tumors or benign tonsillar hyperplasia.

Medication decision-making and adherence in lupus: patient-physician discordance and the impact of previous 'adverse medical experiences'.

Objectives: Medication adherence is critical in the successful management of lupus. There is very limited existing literature on reasons why non-adherence is not reported. This study explores the impact of current and previous medical experiences on patient satisfaction, adherence and reporting of non-adherence.

Photocatalytic Water Splitting Reaction Catalyzed by Ion-Exchanged Salts of Potassium Poly(heptazine imide) 2D Materials.

Potassium poly (heptazine imide) (K-PHI), a crystalline two-dimensional carbon-nitride material, is an active photocatalyst for water splitting. The potassium ions in K-PHI can be exchanged with other ions to change the properties of the material and eventually to design the catalysts. We report here the electronic structures of several ion-exchanged salts of K-PHI (K, H, Au, Ru, and Mg) and their feasibility as water splitting photocatalysts, which were determined by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Rheumatological complications of Covid 19.

Introduction: COVID-19 has caused unprecedented hardships in the 21st century with more than 150 million infections. Various immunological phenomena have been described during the course of the infection, and this infection has also triggered autoimmunity. Rheumatological illnesses have been described following resolution of the acute infection; hence we sought to conduct a review of the rheumatological complications of COVID-19.

Chemical Vapor Deposition of Highly Conjugated, Transparent Boron Carbon Nitride Thin Films.

Ternary materials made up only from the lightweight elements boron, carbon, and nitrogen are very attractive due to their tunable properties that can be obtained by changing the relative elemental composition. However, most of the times, the synthesis requires to use up to three different precursor and very high temperatures for the synthesis. Moreover, the low reciprocal solubility of boron nitride and graphene often leads to BN-C composite materials due to phase segregation.

Pollination of the strongly scented Sarcoglottis acaulis (Orchidaceae) by male orchid bees: nectar as resource instead of perfume.

The Neotropical orchid genus Sarcoglottis comprises ~40 species, which emit strong floral scents, presumably involved in pollinator attraction. Information on basic aspects of its natural history is scant, with the few studies available so far pointing to nectar-seeking orchid bees as pollinators. Here, we investigated the reproductive biology of Sarcoglottis acaulis, addressing the ecological meaning of its floral scent.

Inhibition of Histone Deacetylases 1, 2, and 3 Enhances Clearance of Cholesterol Accumulation in Niemann-Pick C1 Fibroblasts.

Niemann-Pick disease type C1 (NPC1) is a rare genetic cholesterol storage disorder caused by mutations in the gene. Mutations in this transmembrane late endosome protein lead to loss of normal cholesterol efflux from late endosomes and lysosomes. It has been shown that broad spectrum histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi's) such as Vorinostat correct the cholesterol accumulation phenotype in the majority of NPC1 mutants tested in cultured cells.

Skincare practices in extremely premature infants: A survey of tertiary neonatal intensive care units from Australia and New Zealand.

Methods: A web-based secure survey invite was emailed to the medical directors of tertiary NICUs. The survey included questions on various aspects of skincare practices in the first 2 weeks of life in extremely premature infants (born before 28 weeks gestation).
