Capillary pruning couples tissue perfusion and oxygenation with cardiomyocyte maturation in the postnatal mouse heart.

Removal of poorly perfused capillaries by pruning contributes to remodeling the microvasculature to optimize oxygen and nutrient delivery. Blood flow drives this process by promoting the intravascular migration of endothelial cells in developing networks, such as in the yolk sac, zebrafish brain or postnatal mouse retina. In this study, we have implemented innovative tools to recognize capillary pruning in the complex 3D coronary microvasculature of the postnatal mouse heart.

Bis-amidocarbazolyl urea receptor for short-chain dicarboxylate anions.

Urea receptor 1 based on two (1-amino-8-amido-3,6-dichloro)carbazole units shows a strong association with dicarboxylate anions such as oxalate, malonate and succinate guests through multiple hydrogen bonds from the carbazole, urea and amide NH groups. (1)H NMR complexation studies exhibit high values of association constants in DMSO-d(6). X-ray structures of the 1 : 1 complexes of 1 with oxalate and malonate as their ditetrabutylammonium salts were obtained.

Hashish body packing: a case report.

A 42-year-old African male was brought by the police to the emergency department under suspicion of drug smuggling by body-packing. Plain abdominal radiograph showed multiple foreign bodies within the gastrointestinal tract. Contrast-enhanced abdominal CT confirmed the findings, and the patient admitted to have swallowed "balls" of hashish.

Synthesis, Binding and Fluorescence Studies of Bis-2-amidopyrrole Receptors for Bis-carboxylate Anions.

The ditopic neutral receptors 1 and 2 were synthesized for the recognition and sensing of bis-carboxylates. They are based on pyrrole and amide groups as hydrogen-bond donors to bind the oxoanions of the guests. Among the obtained results, the selectivity for glutarate over succinate is particularly interesting.

Reactivity of some products formed by the reaction of sorbic acid with sodium nitrite: decomposition of 1,4-dinitro-2-methylpyrrole and ethylnitrolic acid.

Sorbic acid reacts with nitrite to yield mutagenic products such as 1,4-dinitro-2-methylpyrrole (NMP) and ethylnitrolic acid (ENA). In order to know the stability of these compounds, a kinetic study of their decomposition reactions was performed in the 6.0-9.

[Comprehensive surveillance system for dengue prevention].

A comprehensive ecosystem approach-based surveillance system was designed and implemented for dengue prevention in Cotorro municipality at the City of Havana. Cuba, geographically situated near those countries with high dengue incidence, and having a preventive approach as a premise of its public healthcare system, has to adopt measures to prevent new dengue epidemics. The environmental, entomological and clinical/epidemiological elements of the surveillance system were integrated and combined with a social participation strategy.

Macrocyclic chiral receptors toward enantioselective recognition of naproxen.

[structure: see text] A macrocyclic receptor based on a bischromenylurea and an alpha,alpha'-(o,o'-dialkyl)diphenyl-p-xylylenediamine spacer provides a C(2) chiral cavity to associate carboxylates by H-bonds. The extent of the selectivity obtained for the racemic receptor 2 and enantiomerically pure (S)-naproxen is 7.2:1.
