Illustrations of Coping and Mental Well-Being of Adolescents Living with HIV in Cape Town, South Africa During COVID: A Photovoice Study.

Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) are the fastest-growing population living with HIV globally. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted health systems, thereby negatively affecting the quality and availability of HIV care and support services. This study describes the challenges and treatment experiences of ALHIV on ART at a public primary healthcare facility in a low-socioeconomic community in Cape Town, South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Barriers to the Implementation of Max-Profit and Stochastic Feed Formulation Strategies: A Survey of the Australian Poultry Industry.

A survey of industry groups including nutritionists, producers, feed manufacturers, and technical personnel in broiler and layer operations within the Australian poultry industry was completed to determine the industry's present views of max-profit and stochastic feed formulation and the barriers they see to implementing these techniques. A total of 32 responses were collected, made up of 17 nutritionists, 4 feed manufacturers, 5 producers, and 6 technical personnel. The survey revealed interest and need to implement stochastic and max-profit feed formulation techniques and identified the key barriers to the implementation of these feed formulation techniques.

Exploring a role for flow-induced aggregation assays in platform formulation optimisation for antibody-based proteins.

The development time of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) has been shortened by formulation platforms and the assessment of 'protein stability' using 'developability' assays. A range of assays are used to measure stability to a variety of stresses, including forces induced by hydrodynamic flow. We have previously developed a low-volume Extensional Flow Device (EFD) which subjects proteins to defined fluid flow fields in the presence of glass interfaces and used it to identify robust candidate sequences.

Hearing Loss in Children with 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome.

Objectives: Hearing loss is considered common in children with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS), with a few prior studies reporting a 32%-78% prevalence; mild-moderate conductive hearing loss has been reported most commonly.

Heavy ion beam probe for Wendelstein 7-X measurement capabilities as projected through its design.

A heavy ion beam probe (HIBP) diagnostic is being developed for studies of plasma equilibrium and turbulence in the optimized Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) stellarator. Operation of W7-X has experimentally demonstrated that its optimized magnetic field results in improved neoclassical particle confinement and, as a result, turbulence is the predominant cause of energy transport. The HIBP will have the unique ability to provide experimental data needed to complement models of both neoclassical and turbulent transport.

Malignant phyllodes: 10 year review of management through a sarcoma service.

Background: Phyllodes tumours of the breast are rare, and their treatment is still subject to discussion. They are classified as benign, borderline, or malignant based on histopathological characteristics of the stroma. This study demonstrates 10 years' experience in diagnosis and management of malignant phyllodes.

Digital technology for HIV self-management in low- and middle-income countries: a scoping review of adolescents' preferences.

Digital health technology interventions have shown promise in enhancing self-management practices among adolescents living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (ALHIV). The objective of this scoping review was to identify the preferences of ALHIV in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) concerning the use of digital health technology for the self-management of their chronic illness. Electronic databases, including PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) (Plus with Full Text), Central (Cochrane Library), Epistemonikos, and Medline (EbscoHost), were searched.

Eco-nursing competencies for nurses: A scoping review.

Background: Nurses are tasked with addressing the health impacts of climate change. Eco-nursing competencies, covering knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to climate change, equip nurses to actively mitigate and adapt to its effects on health and the environment.

Objective: To synthesize existing literature on eco-nursing roles and competencies for nurses.

Computer-vision analysis of craniofacial dysmorphology in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and psychosis spectrum disorders.

Background: Minor physical anomalies (MPAs) are congenital morphological abnormalities linked to disruptions of fetal development. MPAs are common in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS) and psychosis spectrum disorders (PS) and likely represent a disruption of early embryologic development that may help identify overlapping mechanisms linked to psychosis in these disorders.

Intraoperative near-infrared fluorescence guided surgery using indocyanine green (ICG) may aid the surgical removal of benign bone and soft tissue tumours.

Background: Benign bone and soft tissue tumours encompass a broad, heterogenous range of tumours with varying clinical characteristics. These are often managed surgically with either curettage or marginal excision, but unfortunately have high rates of local recurrence. Indocyanine green (ICG) is a fluorescent dye which can be used to identify solid malignancies intraoperatively but its use is not yet established in benign bone and soft tissue tumours.

Cardiovascular risk among community members in three communities in the Cape Metropole of the Western Cape.

Background:  Cardiovascular diseases pose a risk to population health in South Africa and are responsible for almost one in six deaths (17.3%).

Aim:  To determine the cardiovascular risk among community members who attended a community outreach programme.

Health Workers' Responses to COVID-19 Pandemic's Impact on Service Delivery to Adolescents in HIV Treatment in Cape Town, South Africa: A Qualitative Study.

Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIVs) are considered a priority population in the fight against HIV, requiring dedicated services. The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent disruptions deprived ALHIVs on antiretroviral therapy (ART) of the care and social support essential for treatment adherence and positive treatment outcomes. This study describes health managers' and healthcare workers' responses to the impact of COVID-19 on service delivery to ALHIVs in HIV treatment in the Cape Town Metropole.

Personal factors influencing female students' condom use at a higher education institution.

Background:  South African female students' consistent condom use is low, possibly due to personal factors, such as knowledge about sexual reproductive health, attitudes towards safe sex, risk perceptions and condom use, self-efficacy.

Aim:  This study aimed to investigate the personal factors that influence condom utilisation among female students.

Setting:  This study was conducted at a higher education institution in the Northern Cape province in South Africa.

Finding biomarkers of experience in animals.

At a time when there is a growing public interest in animal welfare, it is critical to have objective means to assess the way that an animal experiences a situation. Objectivity is critical to ensure appropriate animal welfare outcomes. Existing behavioural, physiological, and neurobiological indicators that are used to assess animal welfare can verify the absence of extremely negative outcomes.

Use of telemedicine in general practice in Europe since the COVID-19 pandemic: A scoping review of patient and practitioner perspectives.

General practice is generally the first point of contact for patients presenting with COVID-19. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic general practitioners (GPs) across Europe have had to adopt to using telemedicine consultations in order to minimise the number of social contacts made. GPs had to balance two needs: preventing the spread of COVID-19, while providing their patients with regular care for other health issues.

Experiences of adolescents living with HIV on transitioning from pediatric to adult HIV care in low and middle-income countries: A Qualitative Evidence Synthesis Protocol.

In South Africa, it is estimated that approximately 320,000 adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) will transition from pediatric to adult antiretroviral treatment (ART) by 2028. However, the age period of 10-19 years is accompanied by a myriad of barriers that challenge the transition process, and continued adherence to ART. The transition process involves ALHIV taking charge of their own health and disease management which raises challenges for their retention in care.

Remote assessment of the Penn computerised neurocognitive battery in individuals with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.

Background: Neurocognitive functioning is an integral phenotype of 22q11.2 deletion syndrome relating to severity of psychopathology and outcomes. A neurocognitive battery that could be administered remotely to assess multiple cognitive domains would be especially beneficial to research on rare genetic variants, where in-person assessment can be unavailable or burdensome.

A novel research competency framework for clinical research nurses and midwives.

Background: Clinical research nurses and midwives (CRN/Ms) are highly specialised registered nurses. They combine their clinical nursing expertise with research knowledge and skills to aid in the delivery of rigorous, high-quality clinical research to improve health outcomes, the research participant's experience and treatment pathways ( Beer et al 2022 ). However, there is evidence that the transition into a CRN/M role is challenging for registered nurses.

A case-control study of bleeding risk in children with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome undergoing cardiac surgery.

Previous research suggests that individuals with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (DS) have an increased risk of bleeding following cardiac surgery. However, current guidelines for management of patients with 22q11.

Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of angiosarcoma of the head and neck: A 17-year single-centre experience.

Introduction: Angiosarcomas in the head and neck region are aggressive tumours associated with high local recurrence and metastatic rates. We present our 17-year experience at the North of England Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service.

Methods: A retrospective review of our prospectively maintained database was undertaken, looking for patients diagnosed with angiosarcomas affecting the head and neck.
