Metallo-supramolecular self-assembly tends to be performed with single metal ions and single, highly symmetrical, ligands. This simplifies the self-assembly process as without sufficient bias within the system a mixture of products may be formed. However, with various applications of metallo-supramolecular species having been demonstrated, the ability to generate more intricate architectures is keenly sought after.

A proof-of-concept practice-based implementation network was developed in the US Departments of Veteran Affairs (VA) and Defense to increase the speed of implementation of mental health practices, derive lessons learned prior to larger-scale implementation, and facilitate organizational learning. One hundred thirty-four clinicians in 18 VA clinics received brief training in the use of the PTSD checklist (PCL) in clinical care. Two implementation strategies, external facilitation and technical assistance, were used to encourage the use of outcomes data to inform treatment decisions and increase discussion of results with patients.

[Pd(hextrz)] is a quadruply stranded helicate, a novel bioinorganic complex designed to mimic the structure and function of proteins due to its high stability and supramolecular size. We have previously reported that [Pd(hextrz)] exhibited cytotoxicity toward a range of cell lines, with IC values ranging from 3 to 10 μM. Here we demonstrate that [Pd(hextrz)] kills cells by forming pores within the cell membrane, a mechanism of cell death analogous to the naturally occurring cytolytic peptides.

The photophysical properties of a series of rhenium(I) tricarbonyl and platinum(II) bis(acetylide) complexes containing a triphenylamine (TPA)-substituted 1,10-phenanthroline ligand have been examined. The complexes possess both metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) and intraligand charge-transfer (ILCT) transitions that absorb in the visible region. The relative energies and ordering of the absorbing CT states have been successfully controlled by changing the metal center and modulating the donating ability of the TPA group through the addition of electron-donating methoxy and electron-withdrawing cyano groups.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists have learned a lot about the genetics of schizophrenia, but many earlier studies only looked at a few types of genetic changes.
  • By using whole genome sequencing (WGS), researchers can find more types of genetic variants that might be linked to schizophrenia.
  • Their research found that some rare genetic changes that affect how genes are organized in the genome can increase the risk of developing schizophrenia, and they plan to study how these changes affect gene behavior in more detail.

A strategy is presented that enables the quantitative assembly of a heterobimetallic [PdPtL ] cage. The presence of two different metal ions (Pd and Pt ) with differing labilities enables the cage to be opened and closed selectively at one end upon treatment with suitable stimuli. Combining an inert Pt tetrapyridylaldehyde complex with a suitably substituted pyridylamine and Pd ions led to the assembly of the cage.

Self-assembled metallosupramolecular architectures (MSAs) with built-in functionalities such as light-harvesting metal centers are a promising approach for developing emergent properties within discrete molecular systems. Herein we describe the synthesis of two new but simple "click" ligands featuring a bidentate 2-pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole chelate pocket linked to a monodentate pyridyl (either 3- or 4-substituted, L1 and L2) unit. The ligands and the corresponding four Pd and Pt metallo-ligands (Pd1, Pd2, Pt1 and Pt2) were synthesized and characterized using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and X-ray crystallography.

Surgical infiltration of liposomal bupivacaine in the adult population has been shown to decrease perioperative use of opioids, but there have been few studies conducted in the pediatric surgical population. The authors' objective was to assess the effect of liposomal bupivacaine on opioid reduction in the pediatric alveolar cleft population. The authors hypothesized that the use of surgical site infiltration with liposomal bupivacaine would be associated with decreased post-operative opioid requirements following alveolar bone grafting.
