Voltage imaging is a powerful technique for studying neuronal activity, but its effectiveness is often constrained by low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). Traditional denoising methods, such as matrix factorization, impose rigid assumptions about noise and signal structures, while existing deep learning approaches fail to fully capture the rapid dynamics and complex dependencies inherent in voltage imaging data. Here, we introduce CellMincer, a novel self-supervised deep learning method specifically developed for denoising voltage imaging datasets.

Microglia are dispensable for experience-dependent refinement of mouse visual circuitry.

To test the hypothesized crucial role of microglia in the developmental refinement of neural circuitry, we depleted microglia from mice of both sexes with PLX5622 and examined the experience-dependent maturation of visual circuitry and function. We assessed retinal function, receptive field tuning of visual cortex neurons, acuity and experience-dependent plasticity. None of these measurements detectibly differed in the absence of microglia, challenging the role of microglia in sculpting neural circuits.

Complete Response to Immunotherapy Using Pembrolizumab in a Patient With Conjunctival Squamous Cell Carcinoma With Nodal Metastasis.

A 92-year-old woman presented with a large bulbar conjunctival mass in the OD. She also had a palpable parotid mass which on fine needle aspiration biopsy confirmed to be metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. The conjunctival mass was biopsied to confirm the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma with positive programmed cell death ligand 1 expression and a high tumor mutation burden.

Here, we establish a rapid and highly scalable method for generating functional human induced astrocytes (hiAs).

The Importance of the Morel Emotional Numbing Test Instructions: A Diagnosis Threat Induction Study.

Objective: Marketed as a validity test that detects feigning of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the Morel Emotional Numbing Test for PTSD (MENT) instructs examinees that PTSD may negatively affect performance on the measure. This study explored the potential that MENT performance depends on inclusion of "PTSD" in its instructions and the nature of the MENT as a performance validity versus a symptom validity test (PVT/SVT).

Method: 358 participants completed the MENT as a part of a clinical neuropsychological evaluation.

Comparison of clozapine doses and tolerability in patients with and without concurrent valproic acid.

Introduction: Valproic acid (VPA) and its various formulations can be given in conjunction with clozapine for seizure prophylaxis or for augmentation in schizophrenia. There is conflicting literature on how VPA affects clozapine metabolism and the incidence of clozapine-related side effects. The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of VPA when given concurrently with clozapine to patients on clozapine monotherapy.

Olanzapine-Induced Elevated Liver Function Tests in an Older Person Treated for Antidepressant-Induced Mania.

A 67-year-old male presented with symptoms of mania eight days after switching from sertraline to bupropion. His past medical history included benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction, insomnia, and a recent diagnosis of depression. He denied previous history of depression but reported taking sertraline for premature ejaculation, an off-label use.

Evaluation of patient satisfaction and perceptions of a long-acting injectable antipsychotic medication administration service in a community-based pharmacy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, restrictions, and social distancing requirements for medical offices reduced scheduling availability and increased virtual televisits by providers. COVID-19 restrictions created a barrier to health care access for patients who are being administered long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) in an already vulnerable population.

Objective: To describe an LAI medication administration service at a community-based pharmacy during the COVID-19 pandemic, to evaluate patient satisfaction with the administration of LAIs by a pharmacist service in a community-based pharmacy during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to compare the patient's perceptions of receiving LAIs in a community-based pharmacy with those in another setting previously used for medication administration.

The impact of pharmacy candidates' understanding of psychiatry on personal mental health concerns and patient treatment.

Introduction: Psychiatry modules in pharmacy education have the potential to address mental health stigma and may help future pharmacists discuss mental health concerns by altering willingness to engage persons with mental illness to better help this patient population. This research aimed to compare the effectiveness of a psychiatry module on pharmacy candidates' own utilization of mental health resources for themselves, as patients, and the ability to address mental illness during patient interactions.

Additionally, no cases describe delayed dermis fat graft placement following enucleation for such cases.

Skin Necrosis Following Inadvertent Dermal Injection of Extended-release Buprenorphine.

Introduction: Extended-release subcutaneous buprenorphine injection is a relatively new formulation and clinicians are still gaining experience with its use. There is sparse literature available on adverse events. We describe a case of skin necrosis associated with the injection site of extended-release buprenorphine.

Natural binocular depth discrimination behavior in mice explained by visual cortical activity.

In mice and other mammals, forebrain neurons integrate right and left eye information to generate a three-dimensional representation of the visual environment. Neurons in the visual cortex of mice are sensitive to binocular disparity, yet it is unclear whether that sensitivity is linked to the perception of depth. We developed a natural task based on the classic visual cliff and pole descent tasks to estimate the psychophysical range of mouse depth discrimination.

Evaluation of intramuscular olanzapine and ziprasidone in the medically ill.

Introduction: Despite the paucity of studies evaluating short-acting parenteral second-generation antipsychotics in the medically ill, their use in this population has increased. The purpose of this study was to characterize the use of IM olanzapine and ziprasidone in the medically ill at an academic medical center.

Methods: This is a retrospective medical record review of all patients who received IM olanzapine or ziprasidone on nonpsychiatric inpatient units at a large academic medical center from August 1, 2015 to July 31, 2017.

Determinants of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) persistence in a high-risk population in Central Florida.

Orlando has the second highest HIV incidence in the USA. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine is approved as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to minimize HIV transmission. Our study describes the PrEP care continuum and factors impacting PrEP persistence during the first year of PrEP care at a sexual health clinic in Orlando.

A patient-centredness improvement study for efficacy of behaviour change for healthy lifestyle and weight loss in a student-run free clinic.

Background: Primary care is the ideal place to implement behaviour change interventions for weight management. However, most primary care physicians are not managing patient weight as a standard of care due to lack of knowledge, skills and reimbursement. Generating more physicians who are familiar and comfortable with providing weight management is essential in leveraging a global change.

Layer 4 Gates Plasticity in Visual Cortex Independent of a Canonical Microcircuit.

Disrupting binocular vision during a developmental critical period can yield enduring changes to ocular dominance (OD) in primary visual cortex (V1). Here we investigated how this experience-dependent plasticity is coordinated within the laminar circuitry of V1 by deleting separately in each cortical layer (L) a gene required to close the critical period, nogo-66 receptor (ngr1). Deleting ngr1 in excitatory neurons in L4, but not in L2/3, L5, or L6, prevented closure of the critical period, and adult mice remained sensitive to brief monocular deprivation.

The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function®-Adult Version is Related to Emotional Distress, Not Executive Dysfunction, in a Veteran Sample.

Objective: In three studies, we explore the impact of response bias, symptom validity, and psychological factors on the self-report form of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Adult Version (BRIEF-A) and the relationship between self-reported executive functioning (EF) and objective performance.

Method: Each study pulled from a sample of 123 veterans who were administered a BRIEF-A and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) during a neuropsychological evaluation. Participants were primarily middle-aged, and half carried a mood disorder diagnosis.

Lithium-related medication problems on nonpsychiatric inpatient medical units.

Purpose: Results of a study of medication-related problems (MRPs) associated with lithium use on nonpsychiatric inpatient medical units are reported.

Methods: In a single-center, retrospective study, the records of all patients hospitalized over a 21-month period who received lithium or had a documented serum lithium concentration during hospitalization were evaluated. The primary objective was to identify patient-specific factors associated with lithium MRPs on nonpsychiatric inpatient medical units.

Addressing clozapine under-prescribing and barriers to initiation: a psychiatrist, advanced practice provider, and trainee survey.

Clozapine use has declined, despite its superior antipsychotic efficacy in treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Implications for clozapine underutilization include suboptimal treatment outcomes and increased hospitalizations. Many barriers preventing the use of clozapine have been described in the literature, including suboptimal knowledge and poor perceptions.
