Background Health care is a significant contributor to climate change. Global pressure for a change towards a more sustainable way of providing dental health care has resulted in the creation of the Green Impact Toolkit, which is comprised of a list of suggested changes that dental practices can make to become more sustainable in a number of categories, such as procurement, waste and water.Aims To compare the effectiveness of changes suggested by the Green Impact Toolkit.

Infants, toddlers, and children learn best in secure, nurturing environments and when attachment to a consistent caregiver is present.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the environmental footprint of eight inter-dental cleaning aids.

Materials And Methods: A comparative life cycle analysis was conducted based on an individual person using inter-dental cleaning aids every day for 5 years. The primary outcome was a life cycle impact assessment.

An Innovative Use of Twitter to Disseminate and Promote Medical Student Scholarship During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Usability Study.

Background: Due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the cancellation of in-person learning activities forced every aspect of medical education and student engagement to pivot to a web-based format, including activities supporting the performance and dissemination of scholarly work. At that time, social media had been used to augment in-person conference learning, but it had not been used as the sole platform for scholarly abstract presentations.

Objective: Our aim was to assess the feasibility of using Twitter to provide a completely web-based forum for real-time dissemination of and engagement with student scholarly work as an alternative to a traditional in-person poster presentation session.

Which Children Use School-Based Health Services as a Primary Source of Care?

Background: School-based health centers (SBHCs) offer primary and preventive health care for children and adolescents. Using nationally representative data, we aimed to examine which child and family characteristics are associated with using school-based health care providers as the primary source of health care, and whether care received from these providers met the criteria for a medical home.

Methods: Using data from the 2016-2018 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH), we analyzed children's usual source of care (school-based provider, doctor's office or clinic, other location, or none), and whether they received care meeting medical home criteria.

Unusual Sites of High-Grade Neuroendocrine Carcinomas: A Case Series and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) encompass a diverse group of varying clinicopathological entities arising from cells of the endocrine and nervous systems. The presentation of these unique tumors can range from occult disease discovered incidentally to hyperactive, metastatic secretory tumors. NETs most commonly originate in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tract, although they may occur at any site in the body due to the wide distribution of neuroendocrine cells.

Managing Boundaries: The Role of Non-Profit Organisations in Russia's Managed Democracy.

This article examines Russian human service non-profit organisations (NPOs) to investigate the nature of civil society in a managed democracy. Specifically the focus is on emerging vertical ties between NPOs and ruling and governing elites. Drawing on qualitative data collected from health and education NPOs in three industrial regions, we find that in establishing such vertical ties the role of organisations and individuals within is changing - they have moved away from ignored outsiders towards accessing the circles of power and being tasked with managing the boundary between the state and civil society.

Giant Cell Arteritis Presenting with Bilateral Subdural Haematomas of Arterial Origin.

Unlabelled: Giant cell arteritis or temporal arteritis is an inflammatory condition affecting medium to large sized vessels, particularly the cranial arteries. A 76-year-old man with no significant past medical history presented to the emergency department with a 3-week history of diffuse headaches associated with fever, loss of appetite, weight loss and general malaise. A CT scan of the brain showed bilateral shallow chronic low density subdural haematomas.

Surgical Site Infections following Spine Surgery for Non-idiopathic Scoliosis.

Background: Surgical site infections (SSIs) following spine surgery in children and adolescents with nonidiopathic scoliosis are associated with increased morbidity and health care costs. Potentially modifiable risk factors for SSIs merit additional study in this population.

Methods: A single-center, retrospective cohort study was performed from August 2008 through December 2013 in children and adolescents undergoing surgery for nonidiopathic scoliosis to determine the trends in SSI rate and causative microorganisms.

Ultrasound measures of supraspinatus tendon thickness and acromiohumeral distance in rotator cuff tendinopathy are reliable.

Purpose: Rotator cuff (RC) tendinopathy has been widely ascribed to impingement of the supraspinatus tendon (SsT) in the subacromial space, measured as the acromiohumeral distance (AHD). Ultrasound (US) is suitable for measuring AHD and SsT thickness, but few reliability studies have been carried out in symptomatic populations, and interrater reliability is unconfirmed. This study aimed to examine the intrarater and interrater reliability of US measurements of AHD and SsT thickness in asymptomatic control subjects and patients with RC tendinopathy.

Acromiohumeral distance measurement in rotator cuff tendinopathy: is there a reliable, clinically applicable method? A systematic review.

Background: Narrowing of the subacromial space has been noted as a common feature of rotator cuff (RC) tendinopathy. It has been implicated in the development of symptoms and forms the basis for some surgical and rehabilitation approaches. Various radiological methods have been used to measure the subacromial space, which is represented by a two-dimensional measurement of acromiohumeral distance (AHD).

Pharmacogenomic modeling of circulating tumor and invasive cells for prediction of chemotherapy response and resistance in pancreatic cancer.

Purpose: Despite a challenging prognosis, modern cytotoxic therapy can induce tumor responses and extend life in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Pharmacogenomic (PGx) modeling of tumor tissue can predict the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents in preclinical cancer models. We hypothesized that PGx profiling of circulating tumor and invasive cells (CTIC) isolated from peripheral blood could predict tumor response, progression, and resistance.

Pneumobilia: a case report and literature review on its surgical approaches.

Gallstones ileus is an uncommon cause but important cause of small bowel obstruction. The gallstone enters the intestinal lumen via a fistula located in the duodenum (cholecystoduodenal), or rarely, in the colon (cholecystocolonic) or stomach (cholecystogastric). This may result in large bowel or gastric outlet obstruction (Bouveret's Syndrome).

Acromio-clavicular joint cyst associated with a complete rotator cuff tear - a case report.

This case report describes a patient with an acromio-clavicular joint (ACJ) cyst, associated with a complete tear of the supraspinatus tendon, and the related arthropathy. Ultrasound was a suitable imaging modality to make the diagnosis, and rule out other pathologies. Full assessment of the rotator cuff must be carried out in the presence of ACJ cysts due to their common co-existence with large cuff tears.

Implications of the new lead screening recommendations in North Carolina.

In June of 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated their recommendations regarding the prevention of childhood lead poisoning. This commentary provides an overview of the new recommendations for blood lead screening and follow up.

Candidate sequence variants and fetal hemoglobin in children with sickle cell disease treated with hydroxyurea.

Background: Fetal hemoglobin level is a heritable complex trait that strongly correlates swith the clinical severity of sickle cell disease. Only few genetic loci have been identified as robustly associated with fetal hemoglobin in patients with sickle cell disease, primarily adults. The sole approved pharmacologic therapy for this disease is hydroxyurea, with effects largely attributable to induction of fetal hemoglobin.
