Cystic fibrosis (CF) is associated with abnormal lipid metabolism, intense respiratory tract (RT) infection, and inflammation, eventually resulting in lung tissue destruction and respiratory failure. The CF RT inflammatory milieu, as reflected by airway secretions, includes a complex array of inflammatory mediators, bacterial products, and host secretions. It is dominated by neutrophils and their proteolytic and oxidative products and includes a wide spectrum of bioactive lipids produced by both host and presumably microbial metabolic pathways.

One hundred and seventy-four participants (115 female) reported on acts of direct aggression in the last 2 years toward intimate partners, known and unknown same-sex targets, and known and unknown opposite-sex targets. Women's self-reported aggression was higher toward partners than other targets, replicating previous findings regarding women's intimate partner aggression.

This study also tested the hypothesis that indicators of global orientation including Sense of Coherence and Differentiation of Self would mediate between perceived stress and symptoms of physical, psychological and relational distress. A three session intervention used guided visualization scripts which incorporated relaxation and controlled breathing techniques as well as a CBT approach that focused on stress management and internal locus of control.

Pregnant rats were subjected to normoxic pregnancy or 13% O2 chronic hypoxia for most of gestation with and without maternal treatment with vitamin C in the drinking water. Maternal hypoxia with and without vitamin C did not affect maternal food or water intake and led to a significant increase in maternal and fetal haematocrit.

The effects on PCa in the transgenic adenocarcinoma of the mouse prostate (TRAMP) cancer model of an elevated fat (20 % of energy as fat) diet containing 155 g of whole walnuts were compared to those of an elevated fat (20 % of energy as soyabean oil) diet with matched macronutrients, tocopherols as well as a low-fat (8 % of energy as soyabean oil) diet. Mice, starting at 8 weeks of age, consumed one of the three different diets ad libitum; and prostates, livers and blood were obtained after 9, 18 or 24 weeks of feeding.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes heterogeneous patterns of neurocognitive deficits. In an attempt to identify homogenous subgroups within this heterogeneity, cluster analysis was used to examine memory and attention abilities as measured by the Test of Memory and Learning (TOMAL) in 300 children, 150 with TBI and 150 matched nonbrain injured controls (standardization sample [SS]). Significant differences were present between the TBI and the SS groups on all TOMAL subscale and index scores, with the TBI groups performing approximately 1.
