Recommendations for the effective use of T-cell-redirecting therapies: a Canadian consensus statement.

Background: T-cell-redirecting therapies, such as bispecific antibodies and chimeric antigen receptor T-cells, exploit the cytotoxic capabilities of the immune system to destroy cells expressing specific surface antigens, including malignant cells. These therapies have demonstrated unprecedented rates, depth, and duration of responses in relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma. However, there are significant challenges in implementing these therapies into practice, which require multidisciplinary and multicenter coordination and significant healthcare resources to effectively manage these patients.

Canadian perspectives in multiple myeloma on the use of steroids in clinical practice based on patient and healthcare provider interviews.

Corticosteroid (steroid) medications are associated with challenging adverse effects that can negatively impact patient quality of life. However, owing to a long legacy of effective use in treatment protocols, they remain a cornerstone of multiple myeloma (MM) care. We conducted a roundtable with Canadian healthcare providers (HCPs) with diverse healthcare backgrounds and involvement in MM care as well as with patients with MM.

What is in a Meter? A Qualitative Exploration into the Implementation of Electricity Metering Across Mumbai Communities Using Normalisation Process Theory.

Unlabelled: Metering is fundamental in the efficient operation of electricity networks, as meters facilitate controlled usage and improve health and well-being. However, across the Global South, meters have often been found to be lacking or not fit for purpose. Therefore, this study sought to determine residents' perceptions and access to electricity metering across a community in Mumbai, with the goal of developing recommendations to support the implementation of meters in the future.

Update on the subcutaneous administration of rituximab in Canadian cancer centres.

Results of studies comparing subcutaneous (sc) with intravenous (iv) rituximab indicate that the two formulations are comparable in efficacy, but most patients and health care professionals prefer the sc route, commonly because of shorter chair time and reduced risk of infusion-related reactions. Recent Canadian data, including those from the scuba study reported here, support the results of earlier international studies showing a reduction in preparation and administration time with the sc formulation, lower cost of administration, and reduced drug wastage because of the fixed sc dosing. Given the significant time and cost savings of the sc formulation, that formulation is generally preferred over the iv formulation for the treatment of follicular lymphoma, diffuse large B cell lymphoma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

A Canadian perspective on the subcutaneous administration of rituximab in non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Rituximab is widely used for the treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, being a key component in most therapeutic regimens. Administration of the intravenous (IV) formulation is lengthy and places a significant burden on health care resources and patient quality of life. A subcutaneous (sc) formulation that provides a fixed dose of rituximab is being examined in a number of studies.

A Canadian perspective on the safe administration of bendamustine and the prevention and management of adverse events.

Although bendamustine has been used to treat lymphoproliferative disorders for decades, it has only recently been approved for use in Canada. Thus, Canadian recommendations on the administration of bendamustine and the management of common adverse events (aes) are needed. This article highlights effective management and assessment strategies recommended by Canadian nurses and pharmacists for the most common aes arising from the use of bendamustine in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Gaucher disease (GD) is the most common hereditary lysosomal storage disorder. Of the three variants of GD, type 1 accounts for 90% of cases. Patients with GD suffer from multiple medical symptoms and conditions.

Psychological aspects of patients with Fabry disease.

The Minnesota Muliphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2) is widely used in chronic illness and chronic pain populations to assess psychological functioning. We report the results of the first investigation using the MMPI-2 to assess psychological aspects of patients with Fabry disease. Fabry disease, an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder, is a multisystem progressive disease affecting the kidney, heart, and central nervous system, and is particularly associated with chronic symptoms including pain.
