Innovation teams must navigate inherent tensions between different learning activities to produce high levels of performance. Yet, we know little about how teams combine these activities-notably reflexive, experimental, vicarious, and contextual learning-most effectively over time. In this article, we integrate research on teamwork episodes with insights from music theory to develop a new theoretical perspective on team dynamics, which explains how team activities can produce harmony, dissonance, or rhythm in teamwork arrangements that lead to either positive or negative effects on overall performance.

Because of the high volume of major surgery and the high incidence of postoperative ileus, failure to code for this complication may have a significant impact on hospital reimbursement and quality measures. Objectives This paper investigates the magnitude of the difference between the prevalence of POI as coded in administrative data versus the prevalence based upon a prospectively applied operational definition of POI in patients undergoing intestinal resection surgery.

Study Design: Cohort.
Setting: Multi-institutional international databases.
Background: The eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer classifies nonmetastatic, node-negative colorectal cancers invading the submucosa (T1) and muscularis propria (T2) as stage I tumors without additional subclassification.
Objective: The aim of the study was to compare survival of T1N0M0 versus T2N0M0 colorectal cancers and to investigate factors associated with decreased survival.
Design: This was an analysis of 2 large population-based data sets.
Background: Postoperative ileus is a common and costly complication after elective colorectal surgery. Effects of intravenous fluid administration remain controversial, and the effect of ostomy construction has not been fully evaluated. Various restrictive intravenous fluid protocols may adversely affect renal function.

We develop and test ML models for predicting Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) in hospitalized patients. This is a retrospective cohort study conducted during 2015-2017.

This study aimed to test the capabilities of a point-of-care electroencephalography (EEG) method to quantitatively measure and monitor postictal confusion immediately following ECT. We evaluated whether a two-channel frontal EEG device may provide a purely quantitative measure of the postictal state that could aid in the continuous, clinical monitoring of patients following ECT.

Objective: We sought to assess the frequency with which oral presentations at the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry's annual meetings from 2012 to 2018 were turned into peer-reviewed publications and review the factors that affected publication of them.
Background: Delirium is common and dangerous, yet underdetected and undertreated. Current screening questionnaires are subjective and ineffectively implemented in busy hospital workflows. Electroencephalography (EEG) can objectively detect the diffuse slowing characteristic of delirium, but it is not suitable for high-throughput screening due to size, cost, and the expertise required for lead placement and interpretation.

Objective: Our aim was to review the benefits of writing case reports and to analyze the characteristics of case reports published in a journal that focuses on care at the interface of psychiatry and medicine.
Methods: The literature on writing case reports as tools for medical education was reviewed.

Aim: Delirium is common and dangerous among elderly inpatients; yet, it is underdiagnosed and thus undertreated. This study aimed to test the diagnostic characteristics of a noninvasive point-of-care device with two-channel (bispectral) electroencephalography (EEG) for the screening of delirium in the hospital.
Methods: Patients admitted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics were assessed for the presence of delirium with a clinical assessment, the Confusion Assessment Method for Intensive Care Unit and Delirium Rating Scale.
Background: The Iowa Rectal Surgery Risk Calculator estimates risk for proctectomy procedures. The Iowa Calculator performed well on NSQIP 2010-2011 training and 2005-2009 validation datasets, but was not prospectively validated and did not include low anterior resections. This study sought to demonstrate validity on new independent data, to update the calculator to include low anterior resection, and to compare performance to other risk assessment tools.

Under the irradiation of visible light (405 nm to 808 nm), such locally strained atomic thin films based on 2H-MoS embedded in an elastomer such as poly (dimethyl) siloxane matrix exhibited a large amplitude of photo-thermal actuation compared to their unstrained counterparts. Moreover, the locally strain engineered nanocomposites showed tunable mechanical response giving rise to higher mechanical stress at lower photon energies.

However, its cost-effectiveness and economic tradeoffs have not been evaluated. This study examines the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of two cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention programs guided by the non-lab versus lab-based Framingham algorithm.

The non-LB Framingham algorithm, which substitute BMI for lipids in laboratory-based Framingham, exhibits best performance among non-LB algorithms. However, its external validity has not been evaluated.

Background: Sarcopenia is associated with an increased risk of operative morbidity and mortality. The impact of sarcopenia in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has not been evaluated. This study assessed the role of sarcopenia on operative outcomes in IBD.

Methods: Logistic regression was used to evaluate association of facility type with treatment after adjusting for patient demographics, stage, and comorbidities. SEER-Medicare beneficiaries who were diagnosed with stage II/III rectal adenocarcinoma at age ≥66 years from 2005 to 2009 and had Parts A/B Medicare coverage for ≥1 year prediagnosis and postdiagnosis plus a claim for cancer-directed surgery were included.
Background: Patient demographics and outcomes may influence patient satisfaction. We aim to investigate the relationship between postoperative complications and survey-based satisfaction in the context of payer status.
Methods: Institutional data were used to identify major complication occurrence and linked to patient satisfaction surveys.
Introduction: This study investigated racial disparities in postsurgical health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: Data were collected by the Cancer Care Outcomes Research and Surveillance Consortium. Inclusion criteria were greater than or equal to 21 years of age, NSCLC, and receipt of surgery.
Introduction: Emergency departments (EDs) may be high-yield venues to address opioid deaths with education on both overdose prevention and appropriate actions in a witnessed overdose. In addition, the ED has the potential to equip patients with nasal naloxone kits as part of this effort. We evaluated the feasibility of an ED-based overdose prevention program and described the overdose risk knowledge, opioid use, overdoses, and overdose responses among participants who received overdose education and naloxone rescue kits (OEN) and participants who received overdose education only (OE).
