Interventions to Reduce Mental Health Stigma in Young People: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Importance: Mental health stigma is a considerable barrier to help-seeking among young people.

Objective: To systematically review and meta-analyze randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of interventions aimed at reducing mental health stigma in young people.

Data Sources: Comprehensive searches were conducted in the CENTRAL, CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, and PsycINFO databases from inception to February 27, 2024.

Misinformation exploits outrage to spread online.

We tested a hypothesis that misinformation exploits outrage to spread online, examining generalizability across multiple platforms, time periods, and classifications of misinformation. Outrage is highly engaging and need not be accurate to achieve its communicative goals, making it an attractive signal to embed in misinformation. In eight studies that used US data from Facebook (1,063,298 links) and Twitter (44,529 tweets, 24,007 users) and two behavioral experiments (1475 participants), we show that (i) misinformation sources evoke more outrage than do trustworthy sources; (ii) outrage facilitates the sharing of misinformation at least as strongly as sharing of trustworthy news; and (iii) users are more willing to share outrage-evoking misinformation without reading it first.

Goal inference in moral narratives.

We often form beliefs about others based on narratives they tell about their own moral actions. When constructing such moral narratives, narrators balance multiple goals, such as conveying accurate information about what happened ('informational goals') and swaying audiences' impressions about their moral characters ('reputational goals'). Here, we ask to what extent audiences' detection of narrators' reputational goals guide or prevent them from making moral character judgments intended by narrators.

Artificial intelligence and illusions of understanding in scientific research.

Scientists are enthusiastically imagining ways in which artificial intelligence (AI) tools might improve research. Why are AI tools so attractive and what are the risks of implementing them across the research pipeline? Here we develop a taxonomy of scientists' visions for AI, observing that their appeal comes from promises to improve productivity and objectivity by overcoming human shortcomings. But proposed AI solutions can also exploit our cognitive limitations, making us vulnerable to illusions of understanding in which we believe we understand more about the world than we actually do.

Transcriptional consequences of trisomy 21 on neural induction.

Introduction: Down syndrome, caused by trisomy 21, is a complex developmental disorder associated with intellectual disability and reduced growth of multiple organs. Structural pathologies are present at birth, reflecting embryonic origins. A fundamental unanswered question is how an extra copy of human chromosome 21 contributes to organ-specific pathologies that characterize individuals with Down syndrome, and, relevant to the hallmark intellectual disability in Down syndrome, how trisomy 21 affects neural development.

[Disparities in the use of mental health services of adolescents in Chile].

Objective: To examine disparities in the use of mental health services (MHS) in adolescents according to sociodemographic factors.

Subjects And Method: 2,022 adolescents aged 13-19 years in Santiago, Chile, participated in the study. Between April and May 2008, they answered a self-report survey that assessed lifetime (history of treatment for depression) and current (psychological or pharmacological treatment) use of MHS, sociodemographic variables, and psychopathology as symptoms of depression, symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, and risk of problematic substance use.

Although tyrosine kinase inhibitors and immunotherapy have improved the outlook for some patients, many individuals are non-responders or relapse despite treatment. The hostile metabolic environment in RCC affects the ability of T-cells to maintain their own metabolic programme constraining T-cell immunity in RCC.

Changing the culture of peer review for a more inclusive and equitable psychological science.

Peer review is a core component of scientific practice. Although peer review ideally improves research and promotes rigor, it also has consequences for what types of research are published and cited and who wants to (and is able to) advance in research-focused careers. Despite these consequences, few reviewers or editors receive training or oversight to ensure their feedback is helpful, professional, and culturally sensitive.

Human social learning is increasingly occurring on online social platforms, such as Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok. On these platforms, algorithms exploit existing social-learning biases (i.e.

Objective: To estimate the prevalence and comorbidity of depression, generalized anxiety, and risk of problematic substance use in adolescents, and to examine the sociodemographic variables associated with these mental health problems.

Subjects And Method: 2,022 students from first to third year of high school (9th to 11th grade) from 8 educational establishments in the northern area of Santiago, Chile, participated in the study. The mean age was 15.

Attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination among incarcerated persons in the Federal Bureau of Prisons, June-July 2021.

Objective: To understand the attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination and trusted sources of vaccination-related information among persons incarcerated in the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Methods: From June-July 2021, persons incarcerated across 122 facilities operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons were invited to participate in a survey asking their reasons for receiving or declining COVID-19 vaccination and the information sources they relied upon to make these decisions. Descriptive analyses were conducted.

Breaking the -Butyllithium Contact Ion Pair: A Gateway to Alternate Selectivity in Lithiation Reactions.

The effects of Lewis basic phosphoramides on the aggregate structure of BuLi have been investigated in detail by NMR and DFT methods. It was determined that hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA) can shift the equilibrium of BuLi to include the triple ion pair (-Bu-Li--Bu)/HMPALi which serves as a reservoir for the highly reactive separated ion pair -Bu/HMPALi. Because the Li-atom's valences are saturated in this ion pair, the Lewis acidity is significantly decreased; in turn, the basicity is maximized which allowed for the typical directing effects within oxygen heterocycles to be overridden and for remote sp C-H bonds to be deprotonated.

Overperception of moral outrage in online social networks inflates beliefs about intergroup hostility.

As individuals and political leaders increasingly interact in online social networks, it is important to understand the dynamics of emotion perception online. Here, we propose that social media users overperceive levels of moral outrage felt by individuals and groups, inflating beliefs about intergroup hostility. Using a Twitter field survey, we measured authors' moral outrage in real time and compared authors' reports to observers' judgements of the authors' moral outrage.

The weekend effect in aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage: a single centre experience and review.

Clinical outcomes for patients admitted to hospital during weekend hours have been reported to be poorer than for those admitted during the week. Aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH) is a devastating form of haemorrhagic stroke, with a mortality rate greater than 30%. A number of studies have reported higher mortality for patients with aSAH who are admitted during weekend hours.
