This study examined residual symptoms of PTSD and depression among 71 active duty service members with PTSD and comorbid major depressive disorder (MDD).

Background: Executive dysfunction, including working memory deficits, is prominent in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and can impede treatment effectiveness. Intervention approaches that target executive dysfunction alongside standard PTSD treatments could boost clinical response. The current study reports secondary analyses from a randomized controlled trial testing combined PTSD treatment with a computerized training program to improve executive dysfunction.

The HER2-directed antibody-drug conjugate DHES0815A in advanced and/or metastatic breast cancer: preclinical characterization and phase 1 trial results.

Approved antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) for HER2-positive breast cancer include trastuzumab emtansine and trastuzumab deruxtecan. To develop a differentiated HER2 ADC, we chose an antibody that does not compete with trastuzumab or pertuzumab for binding, conjugated to a reduced potency PBD (pyrrolobenzodiazepine) dimer payload. PBDs are potent cytotoxic agents that alkylate and cross-link DNA.

Symptom Attribution and Neuropsychological Outcomes Among Treatment-Seeking Veterans With a History of Traumatic Brain Injury.

Objective: In this cross-sectional study, the authors aimed to examine relationships between illness perception, measured as symptom attribution, and neurobehavioral and neurocognitive outcomes among veterans with a history of traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Methods: This study included 55 treatment-seeking veterans (N=43 with adequate performance validity testing) with a remote history of TBI (80% with mild TBI). Veterans completed a clinical interview, self-report questionnaires, and a neuropsychological assessment.

Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) of bacteria and viruses is a potent reduction strategy that bypasses typical resistance mechanisms. Naturally occurring riboflavin has been widely used in PDI applications due to efficient light-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) release.

Smoking cessation services and shared decision-making practices among lung cancer screening facilities: A cross-sectional study.

Background: Little is known about how screening facilities are meeting the requirements for the reimbursement of lung cancer screening from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), including 1) the collection and submission of data to the CMS-approved registry (American College of Radiology [ACR] Lung Cancer Screening Registry), 2) the verification of a counseling and shared decision-making (SDM) visit having occurred as part of the written order for lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography, and 3) the offering of smoking cessation interventions.

Methods: The authors identified facilities in a southwestern state that were listed by either the ACR Lung Cancer Screening Registry or the GO2 Foundation Centers of Excellence. To select facilities, they used 2 purposive sampling approaches: maximum variation sampling and snowball sampling.

Background: Professional organizations recommend the use of shared decision-making (SDM) in supporting patients' decisions about lung cancer screening (LCS). The objective of this study was to assess the impact of the SDM process on patient knowledge about LCS, decisional conflict, intentions to adhere to screening recommendations, and its role in how the patient made the final decision.

Methods: This study surveyed patients screened for lung cancer within 12 months of the survey, recruited from two academic tertiary care centers in the South Central Region of the U.

Patients' and Providers' Needs and Preferences When Considering Fertility Preservation Before Cancer Treatment: Decision-Making Needs Assessment.

Background: As cancer treatments continue to improve, it is increasingly important that women of reproductive age have an opportunity to decide whether they want to undergo fertility preservation treatments to try to protect their ability to have a child after cancer. Clinical practice guidelines recommend that providers offer fertility counseling to all young women with cancer; however, as few as 12% of women recall discussing fertility preservation. The long-term goal of this program is to develop an interactive web-based patient decision aid to improve awareness, access, knowledge, and decision making for all young women with cancer.

Poor sleep quality is common among Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and history of traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the relationship between sleep quality and treatment outcomes following trauma-focused interventions is less well-understood in this population. We sought to better understand whether 1) sleep quality changed as a result of trauma-focused treatment and 2) if baseline sleep quality moderated psychological and neurobehavioral treatment outcomes.

Self-efficacy and coping style in Iraq and Afghanistan-era veterans with and without mild traumatic brain injury and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Objective: To examine self-efficacy and coping style in combat-exposed Veterans with and without mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) history and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Methods: Veterans (N = 81) were categorized into four groups: comorbid mTBI and PTSD (n = 23), PTSD-only (n = 16), mTBI-only (n = 25), and combat-exposed controls (n = 17). Outcomes included the Self-Efficacy for Symptom Management Scale and the Brief Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced.

How do couples and spouses/partners consider fertility preservation decisions during cancer treatment planning? A qualitative analysis of dyadic decision making.

Objective: This study assessed the needs and perspective of (1) couples and (2) spouses/partners when considering fertility preservation after a cancer diagnosis.

Research Approach: Semi-structured interviews explored (1) couples' shared decision-making and (2) spouses'/partners' individual perspectives.

Participants: Twelve female cancer survivors and their partners (spouses or domestic/romantic partners) ( = 24).

Light-driven assembly of biocompatible fluorescent chitosan hydrogels with self-healing ability.

Nitrile imine-mediated tetrazole-ene cycloaddition (NITEC) was successfully used to cross-link complementary tetrazole and maleimide chitosan derivatives into hydrogel networks using irradiation. The photo-click reaction resulted in the formation of robust fluorescent hydrogels with an emission signal at around 530 nm. The degree of cross-linking and the resulting hydrogel properties such as pH sensitivity and swelling were influenced by the tetrazole/maleimide ratio and the length of irradiation.

Post-concussive symptom endorsement and symptom attribution following remote mild traumatic brain injury in combat-exposed Veterans: An exploratory study.

The purpose of this study was to examine rates of and relationships between "post-concussive" symptom endorsement and symptom attribution in Veterans with a history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). This cross-sectional, exploratory study included 48 combat-exposed Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans with remote history of mTBI. All Veterans completed clinical interviews and self-report questionnaires assessing sociodemographic factors, injury and combat-related variables, psychiatric distress, self-efficacy, and coping style.
