Combined single-photon emission computed tomography-myocardial perfusion imaging with coronary calcium score for assessing coronary disease.

Purpose: Coronary artery disease (CAD) underestimation represents a major pitfall of single-photon emission computed tomography-myocardial perfusion imaging (SPECT-MPI). Coronary artery calcium score (CACS) has emerged as a sensitive tool for the assessment of suspect CAD; however, the integration of SPECT-MPI with CACS has been seldom evaluated, so far, and was therefore the aim of the present study.

Methods: Patients undergoing SPECT-MPI with CACS and subsequent coronary angiography were included.

Pulmonary Low Malignant Potential Adenocarcinoma: A Validation of the Proposed Criteria for This Novel Subtype.

Adenocarcinoma (ADC) is the most common histologic type of lung cancer, including in situ (lepidic), minimally invasive, and invasive forms. While the former 2 types are associated with a favorable outcome, the latter includes tumors with variable behavior, often tumor stage-related. A recent study proposed strict morphologic criteria defining a new subgroup of resected stage I invasive ADC (16% of cases) with favorable outcomes (100% disease-specific survival), named "ADC of low malignant potential (LMP-ADC).

Physiological and degenerative loading of bovine intervertebral disc in a bioreactor: A finite element study of complex motions.

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration and regenerative therapies are commonly studied in organ-culture experiments with uniaxial compressive loading. Recently, in our laboratory, we established a bioreactor system capable of applying loads in six degrees-of-freedom (DOF) to bovine IVDs, which replicates more closely the complex multi-axial loading of the IVD in vivo. However, the magnitudes of loading that are physiological (able to maintain cell viability) or mechanically degenerative are unknown for load cases combining several DOFs.

Identification of a minimum number of genes to predict triple-negative breast cancer subgroups from gene expression profiles.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a very heterogeneous disease. Several gene expression and mutation profiling approaches were used to classify it, and all converged to the identification of distinct molecular subtypes, with some overlapping across different approaches. However, a standardised tool to routinely classify TNBC in the clinics and guide personalised treatment is lacking.

Association of Concomitant Bone Resorption Inhibitors With Overall Survival Among Patients With Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer and Bone Metastases Receiving Abiraterone Acetate With Prednisone as First-Line Therapy.

Importance: Bone resorption inhibitors (BRIs) are recommended by international guidelines to prevent skeletal-related events (SREs) among patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and bone metastases. Abiraterone acetate with prednisone is currently the most common first-line therapy for the treatment of patients with mCRPC; however, the clinical impact of the addition of BRIs to abiraterone acetate with prednisone in this disease setting is unknown.

Objective: To evaluate the association of the use of concomitant BRIs with overall survival (OS) and time to first SRE among patients with mCRPC and bone metastases receiving abiraterone acetate with prednisone as first-line therapy.

Gamma/delta T-cell lymphoma with mycosis fungoides-like clinical course transforming to "T-cell-receptor-silent" aggressive lymphoma: Description of one case.

Primary cutaneous γδ T-cell lymphomas (PCGDTLs) are a heterogeneous group of lymphomas representing about 1% of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) and mostly regarded as clinically aggressive. Current WHO-EORTC classification recognizes different clinic-pathologic subsets of PCGDTL, but it suggests that cases showing a mycosis fungoides (MF)-like clinical presentation and histopathology should be classified as MF irrespective of phenotype for their indolent course. Herein, we describe a case of γδ-MF, featuring at onset a granulomatous pattern, with subsequent clinical worsening signaled by the development of an ulcero-necrotic lesion and systemic dissemination, leading to death in 5 months.

Cancer Diagnostic Delay in Northern and Central Italy During the 2020 Lockdown Due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic.

Objectives: We performed data collection concerning the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic-related delay in the diagnosis of cancers to individuate proper corrective procedures.

Methods: A comparison was made among the number of first pathologic diagnoses of malignancy made from weeks 11 to 20 of 2018, 2019, and 2020 at seven anatomic pathology units serving secondary care hospitals in northern-central Italy.

Survey on symptoms in patients receiving chemotherapy in an Italian department of oncology: a comparison between period prevalences.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prevalence over time of the measured side effects using a self-assessment questionnaire in normal clinical practice.

Methods: The prevalence of symptoms reported by patients on the questionnaire was evaluated over two 1-year periods: from 1 June 2006 to 31 May 2007 and from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014. Descriptive statistics were used to describe population.

Gentle rocking movements during sleep in the elderly.

Vestibular stimulation in the form of rocking movements could be a promising non-pharmacological intervention for populations with reduced sleep quality, such as the elderly. We hypothesized that rocking movements influence sleep by promoting comfort. We assessed whether gentle rocking movements can facilitate the transition from wake to sleep, increase sleep spindle density and promote deep sleep in elderly people.

Wet bone-in ageing and effect on beef quality technological parameters.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of wet ageing on chemical-physical characteristics of sirloin and bone-in rib eye steaks obtained from 18 months old young bulls and 27 months old heifers. A positive beef tenderization effect of wet ageing was observed with lower values constantly detected in the rib-eye samples and significantly lower shear force values showed in heifer steaks if compared to bulls. The pH values detected both in pre- and post-ageing samples fell in the normal range for meats.

The World Health Organization (WHO) classification of hematopoietic and lymphoid tumors identifies distinctive subtypes of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL), and, additionally, some PTCLs involving mostly extranodal sites like the skin. The difficulty of classifying PTCLs according to the normal stages of T-cell differentiation and the lack of definitive diagnostic markers for most of the subtypes make the diagnosis of these diseases challenging. PTCL cases which do not fit into any of the specifically defined entities are categorized as PTCL not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS).

Validated clinico-pathologic nomogram in the prediction of HER2 status in gastro-oesophageal cancer.

Background: HER2 is the only validated predictive biomarker in gastro-oesophageal carcinoma (GOC). However, several factors, such as heterogeneity in protein expression, shortage of evaluable tumour tissue and need for quick target assessment, underline the usefulness of a pre-screening tool in order to anticipate HER2 status.

Parotid metastasis of renal cell carcinoma, mimicking primary clear cell oncocytoma: report of a case and brief review of the literature.

Malignancies of the parotid gland are relatively uncommon, accounting for only 3-6% of all head and neck cancers. Most of them are primary neoplasms, metastases are uncommon. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) represents 3% of adult malignancies, the clear cell type comprises up to 70% of all RCC.

The Effect of a Slowly Rocking Bed on Sleep.

Rocking movements appear to affect human sleep. Recent research suggested a facilitated transition from wake to sleep and a boosting of slow oscillations and sleep spindles due to lateral rocking movements during an afternoon nap. This study aimed at investigating the effect of vestibular stimulation on sleep onset, nocturnal sleep and its potential to increase sleep spindles and slow waves, which could influence memory performance.

Snoring is a very common often underestimated sleep disorder, which is caused by a partial blockage of the upper airways. It can easily be treated by changing the sleeping posture of the snorer. However, conventional approaches are often perceived as uncomfortable.

18F-FDG PET/CT in Metastatic Pilomatrix Carcinoma.

We describe the FDG PET/CT findings in an exceedingly rare case of metastatic pilomatrix carcinoma (PC). A 76-year-old man, who underwent incisional biopsy of a soft-tissue mass in the frontal scalp that revealed PC, was referred for an F-FDG PET/CT scan for staging purposes. PET/CT showed areas of increased radiotracer uptake corresponding to frontal mass and unsuspected lung lesions, which were later confirmed as metastases from PC at histological analysis.
