Service-Learning in undergraduate dental education: Professional competence for clinical decision-making.

Objectives: The objective of the present study was to evaluate a Service-Learning activity in a dental education programme and the clinical decision-making in the development of professional competence of undergraduate dental students.

Methods: The study consisted of a single holistic case study that involved quantitative and qualitative analyses. A total of 246 last-semester students from a School of Dentistry in southern Brazil, between the years of 2013 and 2016, answered an anonymous online questionnaire with open- and closed-ended questions (5-point Likert scale).

[Social practices in the medicalization and humanization of prenatal care].

The study's main objective is to analyze how discourses of medicalization and humanization reconnect in primary healthcare and shape prenatal care for pregnant women provided by family health teams. This was a single and integrated case study with multiple analytical units and a qualitative approach. A total of 17 focus groups were performed, in which 47 health professionals were heard (14 physicians, 19 nurses, and 14 dentists), members of 17 family health teams in 16 municipalities in the South of Brazil.

The scope of this paper is to describe characteristics of the scientific output in the area of public oral health in journals on public health and dentistry nationwide. The Scopus database of abstracts and quotations was used and eight journals in public health, as well as ten in dentistry, dating from 1947 to 2011 were selected. A research strategy using key words regarding oral health in public health and key words about public health in dentistry was used to locate articles.

A randomized clinical trial to evaluate the impact of a dental care program in the quality of life of head and neck cancer patients.

Objectives: A randomized clinical trial (RCT) to evaluate the impact of dental care program on the quality of life (QOL) of head and neck cancer patients under oncological treatment.

Materials And Methods: The study design was a parallel RCT where 46 subjects with a diagnosis of head and neck primary neoplasy were randomly allocated to the control (CG) or test group (TG). Both groups received basic dental care but the TG received a complimentary care before and during, oncological therapy.

The article analyzes how the separation of the teaching of medicine and of dentistry occurred in Brazil. It highlights the role that the institutionalization of dental teaching policies played in shaping a professional identity. Relations are drawn between teaching policies and professional practices to show how their relationships and meanings have changed historically.
