This study aimed to analyze the multiple characteristics of the decentralization of the Brazilian National Food and Nutritional Security System (SISAN) in a period before the institutional dismantling. Data from the 26 Brazilian states were collected in two public information systems, referring to the years 2017/2018. An exploratory and descriptive study was performed using a hierarchical cluster analysis, based on an analysis model with multiple characteristics of the system decentralization.

Background: We evaluated associations between use of public places for physical activity and active leisure (PAAL) and their distances from subjects' homes and indicators of overweight and obesity, among schoolchildren from different socioeconomic levels, in the city of Florianópolis, Brazil.

Design And Setting: Cross-sectional study conducted on a sample of 2,152 schoolchildren aged 7 to 14 years, enrolled at 30 public and private schools.

Methods: The exposure variables were the use of public places for PAAL in the neighborhood and their distance from schoolchildren's homes.

A descriptive and documental study was performed from August to October 2016 to analyze compliance by state plans for food and nutritional security (PlanSAN) with the guidelines set by the Brazilian National Policy for Food and Nutritional Security (PNSAN). The state plans were accessed via the websites of the Inter-Ministerial Chamber for Food and Nutritional Security (CAISAN) or the state governments, plus complementary data collection at the state level. All the states of Brazil joined the National System for Food and Nutritional Security (SISAN), while fewer than half (13 states, 48%) had drafted their plans.

This article reports on an evaluative study of municipal management of the Brazilian National School Nutrition Program in the largest cities in Santa Catarina State, Brazil. The matrix of indicators included two dimensions: political-organizational, with the sub-dimensions resources, inter-sector action, and social control, and operational-technical, organized in nutritional and feeding efficacy, nutritional monitoring, and educational activities for a healthy diet. A total of 22 indicators were determined, and data were collected through interviews with nutritionists.

This article presents a model to evaluate municipal management of the Brazilian National School Meal Program (NSMP) and verifies its applicability in the ten largest cities of the State of Santa Catarina. The model was constructed during workshops with experts and was adapted using the Delphi Method, with participation by 14 collaborators. The model addresses two dimensions of municipal management: the political-organizational dimension, organized in the sub-dimensions resources, inter-sector action, and social control, and the operational-technical dimension, which involves the sub-dimensions of nutritional and feeding efficacy, nutritional monitoring, and educational activities for healthy eating.

The aim of this study is to assess Municipal School Nutrition Councils (CAEs) of the Brazilian School Nutrition Program (PNAE) in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of municipalities in the state (n = 152; 52%). CAE presidents were interviewed and asked about the counselor profile, attributions performed and the relation of CAEs with other local councils.

The scope of this study is to reflect on the activities of nutritionists in the Brazilian School Nutrition Program, with emphasis on the number of professionals and the attributes, advances and challenges facing these professionals. A critical analysis was conducted based on a review of the literature and official data provided by the National Fund for the Development of Education (NFED) of the Brazilian Ministry of Education. Between the years 2003 to 2011, the percentage of Brazilian municipalities with nutritionists rose from 12% to 79%.

The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation of socioeconomic, dietary, and anthropometric-nutritional variables of parents and their children to overweight (including obesity) in schoolchildren in Santa Catarina State, Brazil. This is a transversal study conducted on 4,964, 6 to 10-year-old schoolchildren registered in 345 Santa Catarina elementary schools. The following data were acquired: the children's current weight and height, birth weight and length, duration of breastfeeding, age at which water, herbal tea and other foods were introduced to their diet; parental income, education level, age, weight and height were also obtained.

The high prevalence of overweight and obesity among schoolchildren in Brazil and worldwide has shown that strategies to promote healthy eating habits are needed. Santa Catarina was the first Brazilian State to promulgate specific legislation to regulate the food commercialized in schools (Law n 12.061/2001).
